BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT: The Job Outlook

View descriptionShare

The State Department of Labor recently released job numbers showing that employment increased by 32,500 jobs in the first four months of the year to a record 4,735,600 jobs in New York City.

We are adding jobs at the same pace as the rest of the country fuelled by a significant increase in healthcare hiring.

Healthcare jobs are up 137,000 from its pre-pandemic levels. The Dow Jones Industrial Average may have topped 40,000 for the first time, but employment in the financial sector has dropped by 7,000 jobs impacted by a number of large bank layoffs.

In other areas, despite the end of the writers and actors strike, movie production jobs have not bounced back.

And we're still lagging behind in retail, trade, and leisure and hospitality.

I'm Rob Walsh for the Business Spotlight on WCBS 880 News.
