When done intelligently, yoga has the power to make important and lasting changes in our physiology and mental health, while also giving us simple tools to restore balance within. 



In today’s episode, Nova chats with Rayne, one of our beautiful Brighton studio teachers who is an avid yogi, osteopath and mum of two. We dive deep into the benefits of yin yoga, yoga nidra and yoga as a stress tool. 



Rayne talks about harmonisation of breath to movement, and how this is often overlooked in yoga practice. She believes the body is merely the vehicle that shapes the breath, which then shapes the mind, and in turn our lives. This leads to a deep stillness that quiets the ego and truly gets us to Savasana. 



We talk through the imbalances that Rayne observes in her teaching week-to-week. She sees striving rather than surrendering. There’s a resistance to vulnerability on the mat. Many people have difficulty with changing up their practice and struggle to evolve spiritually.  



There are days our bodies need to push and sweat to find transformation. Other days, we need to pause in a slower flow. When we take a moment to really stop to listen, our bodies will tell us what we really need. 



Living in a culture of stress, many of us do not have a relationship with rest. Rayne describes using yin yoga and yoga nidra as antidotes to stress, and how combining them can cause a deep relaxation that regulates the nervous system. 



There is so much magic to be found in the world of yoga, and Rayne encourages that if you’re not sure where to begin, just get yourself to any class. Once the fire is lit, the change and growth awaiting you is limitless. All you need to do is start.
