As you know, the West Australian government will soon decide on water allocations in the Fitzroy Valley catchment.
A number of cattle stations in the region, including Gogo, Liveringa and Fossil Downs, want to extract billions more litres of water from the Margaret and Martuwarra Fitzroy Rivers for cropping.
Negotiations are ongoing between the cattle stations and local Traditional Owner groups, along with representatives from the State Government.
Recently, we heard from Phil Hams, the Development Manager at Gogo Station, just outside Fitzroy Crossing.
Today we hear from our own Natalie Davey, who presents Wangki Radio’s morning language program called ‘Danggujarra’ – with her father Bullen Rogers.
Natalie sat down for a chat with reporter Fernando de Freitas about how local community members view the development plans and their deep connection to the Martuwarra Fitzroy River system.
