Jim Haynes, writer, Australian historian & Chris Smith Show regular, joins Michael to shed some history behind James Martin, who will have a bronze statue unveiled in his honour this week at Martin Place in Sydney’s CBD.
Martin was born in Midleton, County Cork, Ireland, but emigrated with his parents to Sydney at the age of one.
He was educated at Dame's School, Parramatta and despite his family's poverty, rose to be premier of NSW three times, attorney general and then chief justice of NSW - the only person to have ever held all three positions.
