Government is facing renewed pressure to reduce immigration numbers.

A report by the Australian Population Research Institute has established a correlation between a growing migrant population and escalating housing prices, with young families and first home buyers struggling to get a foothold in the market.

Senator Pauline Hanson is pushing for a plebiscite on Australia’s immigration rate to ease the load. She believes a curtailing of the migrant intake will alleviate substantial burdens on housing, infrastructure and congestion.

“I’m moving a private members’ bill when parliament starts up in August, to get the parliament to actually vote on it,” Hanson explains.

“We’ve got the numbers they’re bringing in at the moment, between 230,000 at 250,00 a year. It’s estimated to be about 914, 000 over the next four years in the last budget papers. We’re growing 1 person every 1 minute and 24 seconds. This increased population, we can’t handle it.”

“It’s having such an impact on our way of life and our standard of living. It’s madness, sheer madness.”

“But the public have never been involved in this conversation and debate. Politicians have locked the public out of this.”

 “We as the Australian people have a right to have a say in what the population of this country will be.”
