In hour one of VSiN PrimeTime, Tim Murray and Shaun King are joined by Eric Eager, VP of Research and Development/Sumer Sports, as they break down Week 1 of college football. Also on the show, the hosts preview the upcoming Week 1 CFB games.
You are looking live and Tim Murray and Super Bowl champion Sean King on feast in prime time.
We're off and running on a football Friday, ladies and gentlemen alongside Sean King. Yes, Tim Murray, we have a couple games tonight on the slate, including our Rainbow Warriors. Let's go Timmy chang as that line continues to move as the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors face the newest member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Stanford Cardinal. That is the late night game. I should have worn my stay calm. You can still bet on Hawaii shirt because that is tonight at eleven pm Eastern time. Three other games you got the Battle of the Miamis Sean Miami of Ohio versus Miami of Florida, Central Michigan against Michigan State, and then Louisville against Georgia Town. So four games tonight FBS versus FBS, a couple FCS games FCS versus FBS, and then tomorrow, baby, we get into it all weekend long, LSU and Florida State being the crown jewel. Mister King, how are you, sir? Good hit yesterday on yukon pretty unimpressive performance from NC State, so I can already tell you the world will be on Notre Dame next week against NC State, which makes me queasy, but a good night. The under comes home in Utah and Florida victory for both of us. First half came under as well, so all in all, pretty happy evening there for Hey.
Listen, they pay us to make people laugh, but they pay us more to give people winning picks. And we did that yesterday. Start Week one of the college football season off a perfect two and oh hopefully you guys tailed as till mention, I gave out Utah Florida under forty four, never in doubt. Graham Mertz actually did not look as bad as I presume, but he also did not produce many points. It could be a long year down in Gainesville, Florida. Billy Napier and crew what most people considered to be a big time hired two years ago, but he could be on the hot seat. They're not very patient in Gainesville.
Absolutely what I think he's already lost eight games. He's six and eight through a year. Plus shout out.
To coach Laura.
I mean, the job that the fighting John Gulais did last night was pretty impressive, especially considering Tim. But what they lost in the transfer portal actually one of their players I think went to Michigan State. Don'tly get a chance to see him tonight. Interesting conversation I want to have with you regarding Michigan State, Central Michigan and Miami Ohio versus Miami. But we'll get into that a little later. I need to be convinced tonight. I kind of feel a special way about those two games. But I'm interested to talk to you. I can be swayed. You guys always know you can participate during the show. Hit me up at Real Sean King on Twitter. Tim is at one underscore Tim Murray And as fate would have it, our producer Britain has not here today.
That's true. We're gonna do this.
It's not here today and it's probably a good thing for him to well he's used to it by now. No, No, not this kind of not this kind of last night. If you had Nebraska money line that was.
Pain, well they cover, they did cover.
I said money line was pain.
I want to get to this producer Dan Dan, Dan Dan money Miller. We've been doing poll questions, so Dan, here's gonna be the poll question for today, Okay, at VSON Live, We're gonna put it up which dog is the best bet tonight? Because you only get four options on your Twitter polls, so we'll go Miami of Ohio plus sixteens.
So this is plus the points.
Plus the points? Which dog not money line?
Why do I feel like the poll yesterday was money line? Dog?
It was money This is where let's do it with the point. So which dog is the best bet tonight? Miami of Ohio plus sixteen at Miami of Florida, Central Michigan plus fourteen at Michigan State Louis excuse me, Georgia Tech.
Plus seven and a half.
I think we'll say we'll use DraftKings lines. We'll say seven and a half, and then we'll do Hawaii, which is still a three at DraftKings. We'll do Hawaii plus three. Which dog is the best bet for tonight for FBS versus FBS games? Four options in a Twitter poll at VSON Live. We'll get that up there shortly. That'll be our poll question today. I'll ask you the question. I'm not saying you're betting it, but what dog do you think is the most intriguing option? Tonight. This is an official play or anything. We're just having a discussion.
So because of how this group played for Brient Key down the stretch, I think Georgia Tech won five games last year. Four of them were after Brent Key became the interim coach. I think two of them were against ranked teams. If I'm not mistaken, I probably would say Georgia Tech at home, even though it's being played in the Mercedes being centered withere the Falcons call home, it's not on campus. I would probably lean Georgia Tech just because Louisville has some unknowns. I know Jake Plumber, his old quarterback from Purdue's back but he thought so much of Jake Plumber that he started eight and O'Connell and Jack Plumber and Plumber had to transfer to California.
So I went back and watched some Jack.
Plumber film system guy, solid, not spectacular, three years old. Yeah, I just I think I think the Yellow Jackets want to get the Brent Key raw started off in the right way, so off the off the top, I would say Georgia Tech at home. Laying slightly over a touchdown would be my dog.
So if this were last week, I would without hesitation, say Hawaii, it was seven last week.
I don't like that line.
Now it's down to three, even two and a half. Look, I think Hawaii is absolutely going to be live tonight. We don't know what to expect from Stanford. Stanford very well could be this year's Colorado. And what I mean by that is worst Power Five team. It's complete overhaul and they stunk last year. You bring in Troy Taylor's got a kind of quirky type of system. He comes from Sacramento State, the FCS ranks. They lost a ton of talent. Uh Ari put two is expected to be the starting quarterback. I believe uh e j. Smith is going to be a lot of their offense. Feels like it's gonna be a little bit of a grind of a game. Obviously, it's gonna be emotionally charged.
Coming off of injury.
They're coming in Hawaii, uh coming off of you know what has happened in MAUI uh them playing for them? Uh So I think Hawaii is live in that spot. But at this point, if we're talking about which dog catching the points would I like to take, I would say Hawaii money line or pass, because you know, last week it was seven, and we talked about it on here. We talked I was able to you know, tell don't the Lombardi line last week. So of the other three games.
The one why you leave Hawaii, here's what I here's I would back Hawaii more if they actually had a home field advantage, but especially with the tragedy that just happened, even if everything nothing had happened. They don't generally draw extremely well, so it's not like they get energy, and I think it's environments.
I feel like the environment will be better than usual.
So I'll say this, if pregame show hits and that thing is packed, that I may lean Hawaii. But otherwise I'm probably just gonna sit it out because I feel like you're getting a terrible number based on where it opened, based on where you could have got it last weekend.
Right before the end, I'll.
Be sending that home with my CLV tro I know that our guy Brad Powers is sitting with it. Plus ten and a half ticks right, and so I go go wrong.
I can see them losing my four now, you know, And I'm like, I'm a dummy, So I just I'm gonna stay away from that game, but it is a late game, so I will watch it because there's nothing else to do with smoke, really expensive, high end great cigars, and watch my guy, Timmy change do his thing tonight.
Come on, Timmy, we're pulling for you. We know you know the number. So the other options, I don't disagree necessarily with you on tech catching the eight if you like it. But I guess if forced to play one of these and answer our poll question at VSON Live, I would go. I would go Central Michigan. I would go the Chips, you know, Jim mckaway and yet another year the question. I would feel so much better if I am more understanding of what they're doing at quarterback, Bert Emmanuel Junior, who we saw flash. He threw like eight total passes last year. I don't think he won the job outright in camp, so it's more of a fate of Michigan State. My only worry would be this, Sean, and I forget who I was talking to yesterday about this, But this is the game where you gotta win, man, you gotta win. You got to show out. You gotta get that fan base feeling a little something because all off season it's been about you know what a mistake it was to, you know, to to give mel Tucker this extension. They lose Peyton Thorn, they lose Keyon Coleman, so they've lost a lot. But to answer our pole question, and I would probably take the fourteen with Central Michigan. So there you go. Which dog do you think is the best bet for tonight? Got four of them out there, and you can answer that at vs in line.
I definitely want to get into a conversation. But regarding Miami of Ohio Central Michigan those games, Yeah, Miami's a very interesting team because they were returning, if I'm not mistaken, eighteen nineteen starters from last year, so this is a very experienced team. They finally have an offense with Shannon Dawson, and I think fits the quarterback's skill set Tyler van Dyke. Of course they have great skill players. But Central Michigan. But Miami, Ohio, a team that really wasn't that great two years ago, is another veteran team as well as they return a whole bunch of guys. I think nine to the eleven on defense. So I don't know, I do know this tim Either Miami or Michigan State is gonna win by margin. I need to figure out during the show which one, because I think we're undervaluing either the her Keynes with the Spartans based on to Knight's opponents. I just got to figure out which one it is.
So when you look at Miami of Ohio, Brett Gabert back, Blaine's little brother uh back for another year. As you mentioned, a lot of starters returning. The one thing that makes me worried a bit is the head coach of Miami, Chuck Martin. It's been there a long time. Believe this is year number ten for him. He really hasn't fared well in these paycheck games. They don't they don't come up and grab anybody. They beat Northwestern last year, but you know, everybody beat Northwestern last year. So that that's what makes me a little bit worried. But also and then on the on the chip side, they're not expected to be one of the best.
Central Toledo coming in here.
Yeah, by the way, Toledo catching nine and a half against Illinois, trust spot on our guy Brad Evans, a Illinois alum, who will be there, is going to be taking the rockets.
I think I'm leaning towards my Miami first.
Half, but I want to talk Miami. Oh Hurricane gotta we gotta take a bite.
I'm a Florida boys. When I say Miami, I'm always Hurricanes. I will say of Ohio if I'm talking about that.
Game coming up at seven o'clock Eastern, also Central Michigan and Michigan State seven o'clock Eastern, Georgia Tech, Louisville seven point thirty, and then late night Stanford and Hawaii. That's Sean King. I'm Tim Murray. Vote at our on our poll question at VSON Live. Let's get a little NFL discussion to get things going on a football Friday. Our guy Eric Eager his weekly visit. And Eric Eager is always a staple on our He's going to join us each and every Friday at six point fifteen Eastern time, VP of Sumer Sports. Before we get to that, e our producer who is not here today, Britten Hess is a he's at a wedding stop whatever. He is a corn Husker and they covered last night but got their hearts ripped out of their chest. Remind me, are you in a lum of Nebraska to get your PhD from there? I know you have an association with the corn Yeah.
I got my PhD at UNL about eleven years ago. So I wasn't as big of a fan when I was there because it's just so intense.
But I've learned to at least try to be a fan there.
And I grew up in Minnesota, so a lot of my friends are from Minnesota that were giving me a lot of flak. But yeah, I mean, look, they scored just enough points in the first half to cover the first half number, and then they cover the seven seven and a half wherever you got them yesterday.
So kudos to them.
But of course I can't get over the hump in the win lost column.
Yeah, what a complete meltdown by Jeff Simms. I mean, the goal line interception was awful. I mean, he's got the guy right there sitting down for the touchdown. He throws it right to Minnesota. Then I don't even know why Matt was trying to run the two minute drill at that point.
Just go to overtime.
He throws another terrible interception in three plays later, Minnesota's kicking the field goal. Gophers win, like Britain, very convenient you are here.
I'm just gonna say that I can.
Speak for our producer that he had scheduled.
Now we got we got damn producing the show. He doesn't realize it me and you can't see. I mean, he's got this font like it minus four?
Can you stop? This is ridiculous? You call yourself, Oh, Tomb's a bad person. He's calling out people on the air. Let's get back to our guest, Eric Eager, because you just had a tweet a couple moments ago at Eric Eager underscore. So let me get to this e You believe that mister Allen in Buffalo is going to be this year's MVP.
Why well, I just think the Bills are the Bills are an underrated team, and like you know, it's just another way to bet the Bills. I think Alan, you know, has been a top five player in the league for three years now.
I think that.
Last season you had an injury that affected his play. They're going to do some things to protect him. I don't think and Sean could probably talk about this scheme better than anybody, but I thought they ran too many RPO type stuff the last few years, where it was, like, you know, instead of just you know, running the football when it's a rundown and throwing the ball when it's a throwdown, they were trying to do too many like cute things, and I think it made them less explosive. I think they're going to get back on track this year, and to me, it's just one of those where I just think that the Bills are on rated as a whole, and so if they pop up and exceed expectations this year in a tough division, in a division where you're going to see them on Monday Night football against the Jets, you're going to see them on primetime against you know, teams like Kansas City, you're going to see them on To me, I just think that they're a team that they're probably they should be in the Chiefs and Eagles class, and yet the market is a little bit weak on them because they've they've you know, not gotten over the hump the last few years. And one way to buy it is Bills nine to one. Another way to buy it is Josh Allen to win MVP.
And what does that say that currently do you have it?
I think depending on where you look in that eight to nine one range or something like that for Josh Allen.
Kind of right where Mahomes was last year, eight or nine to one.
So I'm glad you brought the Bills because that is an interesting discussion. Next week, we'll, you know, we'll be in the thick of it, and Chiefs Lions will be in the rear view well before we get to you know, kind of that that buy low, sell high that we've discussed with you quite a bit this year. We won't talk to you prior to Kansas City, and Detroit market has moved with the Lions a little bit here. Now. I know this is kind of tugging at your heartstrings because you were captain Restore the Roar last year and then they drafted a running back at twelve and I think you sold your stock on Restore the Roar, Eric, But when you look at what we have in store for us on Thursday night, where Kansas City's laying six and a half, always that tempting number right of oh, just under a touchdowns, that's an easy winner. How do you look at Thursday night's opener with the Lions at Kansas City?
Yeah, do you.
See the value of a Yeah? So, like you know, Pinnacle, you have a minus seven plus one or nine. So they're not even moving the numbers like they're The Chiefs have not been a good team against the spread since the middle of twenty twenty. Like that's another like you're they're not the Patriots in that they they you pay a premium to bet them, and generally speaking, while they win, they don't often cover. So this is one where you're not going to necessarily find me laying, you know, laying more, you know than a touchdown with them.
You see the total move up as well.
A lot of that is Chris Jones being worth probably you know, they probably think he's worth a half a point to the point spread er. So that's what worries me. I think that the Lions are gonna be able to score in this game. I think the Chiefs are gonna gonna have to hold up. I think that they will. I think their offensive line has improved. I think their wide receivers are much more valuable then they let on. So I just like points in this game. I don't think you can find me dead laying, you know, taking under in this game, just because I think it's going to be a lot of scoring and a lot of fun. And you know, Detroit is very much live in this one.
Kansas City last year, to Eric's point, the fourth worst team against the spread in the regular season at six ten and one ATS. We're talking to Eric Eager Sumer Sports. You can follow him on Twitter at Eric Eager underscoresoomer sports dot Com. Check out their YouTube page as well. We mentioned Buffalo, and I actually kind of feel the same way because of all the discussion about Miami and obviously with the Jets, and even a little love with the Patriots. So if they're a maybe by lowish candidate. We've talked about a couple who is a team that you think the market is too high on this year and you might look to fade, whether it be on a week to week basis, Eric, or it would be in that season win totals.
It's the team that to me is I think a little bit too overvalued as the Jets. I think that the Jets, you know, they lost their last six games last year. They have a lot of really good players, but you wonder how many things had to go right for them to have the defense that they had last year. Offensive lines are concern and offensive line play generally doesn't get better as the season progresses, So you go into the season, it's going to be banged up down the stretch and they're already kind of iffy.
That's a team I'm looking to fade. Obviously.
Minnesota is another one where you know, I think the whole market knows that they're not a.
Thirteen win team from a season.
Go.
Detroit's another one where you know, I just talked there, you know, sung their praises, but they're a team that is going to be thought of highly, you know, by by the market, especially if they show out offensively the way that they did last year. Because defense is generally speaking noisy, you know, betters will like to bet into offense at times. Those are some teams, you know, and and it's kind of the other side of teams I like Green Bay and Buffalo. They're gonna have to be, you know, they're gonna have to be teams that take some of that probability and give it to Buffalo and green Bay. And so to me, it's Minnesota, it's Detroit, Chicago, teams that I'm not as high on. And then on the other side, it's you know, the Jets, the Dolphins, and the Patriots.
I'm a little you know, I'm I'm gonna look to fade.
Those teams because I really like what Buffalo and green Bay have to offer.
So let me get to this, because we've been talking a lot about the Indianapolis Colts, but the Jonathan Taylor saga that doesn't get resolved, he's going to be on the pup list. Maybe he gets traded mid season, like we saw with Christian mccaf Then we see the roster makeup after cutdown day where you've got you know, three active wide receivers on the roster and you know, I think a total of what like forty career carries. At the running back position, you've got Anthony Richardson, who is kind of a boomer Bus prospect and might have some learning issues or learning concerns. Year one, first year head coach, I had a text from a buddy who's not a gambler, but all he said was tell me why Indianapolis is not a lock to go under. But they're even money to their under six and a half win totals. So what about Indianapolis Because there's some smart people. You know, your former colleague Ben Brown likes the over on Indianapolis. What is it about the Colts that could let them go over six and a half wins?
Yeah, I think it's it's Anthony Richardson has a high floor with the running.
I think the passing.
I think Shane Steichen will do a good job of avoiding things that make him look bad. He did the same for Jalen Hurts. He did the same for Justin Herbert. Offensive lines better than it looks on paper, I think, and then defensively, they have a really easy schedule, one of the top five easiest schedules in all football. So I think if Anthony Richardson is strong, you know, he's an average NFL quarterback with that athleticism, they should be able to go over that total.
Just because of the way that the whole thing is laid out for them.
I think they stay under the total, but I do think they're a cover machine. I think they're gonna be one of those dogs to cover a lot of games, but kind of turn it over just a little too much to win.
Out right, Eric, great stuff is always man, and we'll talk to you next week.
Thy Harry, guys there, he is Eric.

Two games starting at the top of the hour, Miami of Ohio at Miami of Florida, Central Michigan at Michigan State, Georgia Tech at Louisville. Excuse me, Georgia Tech home to Louisville. Technically it's in Atlanta, but not at Bobby Dodd Stadium. And then on the island late night Hawaii versus Stanford our question today, which dog has the best chance at covering tonight? In the latest of the poll right now at visen Live, thirty seven percent on Hawaii to cover against Stanford twenty four percent, Central Michigan, twenty two percent Miami and coming in last right now at fourteen percent. Is Georgia Tech interesting? A little bit of movement towards Georgia Tech. Just a moment ago we got down to seven at some shops, including Circa Circa's a juice seven at minus one fifteen for Louisville, but seven showed at a couple other spots as bounced back. So I think you actually might be onto something Sean on this Georgia Tech spot to potentially be feisty here in this.
Species, because I do think coach brom is going to do a great job at Louisville. But there are a lot of new faces there. Jack Plummer was a California last year. I know he was at Purdue before that, but that was twenty twenty, if I'm not mistaken, So he's been going for a little bit time and they have like seven, I mean six new wide receivers there, so against the Georgia Tech team's returning a whole lot of experience. I think they're one of the most five experience returning teams you know, in Power five football this year. So I would expect them to put up a legitimate effort. You know, in the season opener. First of Brent Key, He's an alum, the guys love him, the fan bases behind him, the donors fully support him. So I think this is a good spot for Georgia Tech here to be competitive.
You know, I'm curious about to and we'll see it tomorrow with Colorado, a team that basically has a whole new roster. Is what how do these teams look that went very heavy in the portal? How do they look weak?
One?
Are they sluggish out of the gates or are they humming?
You know?
Louisville's a team Sean that brought in twenty five transfers and according to two four to seven Sports, twelfth in the transfer portal rankings. So they brought in a whole lot of talent, you know, team that we'll see on Sunday. Both teams we see on Sunday lsu Per two four to seven Sports number two, Florida State number six. Now, I think Florida State and LSU a little bit different because they more kind of plugged holes, have continuity, but plugged holes where they needed. You know, Louisville's gonna be a lot of new pieces. So how will they ultimately look this tonight when you're taking on Georgia.
Tens King named the starting quarterback. Yep, so people naming starting quarterbacks all across the country.
Today they are as that's a segue into the news out of Tuscaloosa. Now they're playing Middle Tennessee. So keep that in mind.
And quarterback plays good quarterback play, It doesn't matter the opponent.
You think Middle Tennessee's he got a good quarterback play?
Well, mindis tentes Ce? Yeah?
Did you see Miami last year they went to Miami. That kid had a game. Remember we threw the ninety nine yard touchdown players.
Miami made a bowl? Right?
No, no, no, no, We're talking about quarterback play, not quality of a I'm simply saying if the quarterback's balling, you can see it. If it's a situation where Alabama's just so much better than Middle Tennessee and they're kind of hiding Jalen Milroe or he's just out athleting Middle Tennessee State. I think that's different than if he goes out and looks let's say, like Sam Hartman did versus Notre Dame.
So the starter for Alabama will indeed be Jalen Milroe. He will get to start Game one beating out ty Simpson, beating out Tyler Buckner. I believe Lonergan was the true freshman that was in the discussion down there for Alabama. This is their tune up man. And I'll point this out. This stat was as mentioned a handful of spots. I heard it from our guy Stucky over at the Action Network. A bunch of other people have pointed out as well. But Nick Saban since getting to Tuscaloosa, Sean is thirteen and two ats in Week one Alabama, And they've played a lot of those early season big games. Remember Usc. They you know, they came out and absolutely obliterated USC, like fifty two to six. Very rarely does Alabama struggle in Week one. Last year it was I believe it was Miami last year, if my memory serves me correct, when they opened up and hammered Miami. But I want to look more specifically at the quarterback situation there Sean. When you look at I know we haven't seen ty Simpson. Tyler Buckner played a little bit. He played in the bowl game for Notre Dame actually one Gator Bowl MVP also threw two touchdowns to the other team as pick sixes. What's the ceiling of Jalen Milrow From what we've seen from him? What can he be?
I mean he's Heisman that's really yeah.
I mean his athletic ability is box office. I mean we're talking like Michael Vickish this as.
A pure athlete. The problem is.
He's so inconsistent in some of the other areas. And you know, Tim, here's what no one wants to talk about regarding to Alabama. It's on defense. They're probably going to be really good. When you look at the NFL projections, they have NFL players all across the board. This is the first time in a long time Alabama does not have a running back or wide receiver that's projected to be a first or second round pick in the upcoming draft. So I don't know that supporting cast around him is as good as it has been at Alabama. And last year I think Bryce Young masked a lot of issues. They'll be better on the offensive line, but are they going to be dominant to the point where against a loaded box, you know, they can still run the ball effectively. Like, there's just some question marks I have about them offensively and the quarterbacks one of them, and it's not is the talent there is? Can he consistently play winning football? Remember the last time we saw him, I think Bryce Young got hurt early in the Arkansas game and Milroe came in and this was like, you know, a ten win Arkansas team, they were a bowl team, but you know, this was just an okay Arkansas team. And he had a couple of spectacular runs, but then everything else was kind of like I don't know.
So we'll see.
One thing I'll be watching tomorrow in this game is can he make his layups?
You know?
Can he make his layups when guys are open? Can he hit him when the pockets cleaned? So we'll find out a lot when it comes to actually the betting angle here. I think forty is a lot of points, I really do. And it's gonna be fascinating how Nick approaches the second half in this game. Let's just say Alabama's up twenty eighth to three and a half. Is he gonna try and get snaps to ty Simpson and Buckner and maybe even the true freshman and get some experience for those guys In case because of Milro's playing side style, he twists an ankle, bangs the knee up, hurts the shoulder, or is it gonna be Milroe needs all the reps? Like so, I don't really know how to bet this game. I probably just it back, but if you forced me to bet it, I probably would side with Tennessee State Middle Tennessee State plus the points.
Well, that quarterback you mentioned, Chase Cunningham, he is He's not walking through that door right.
He got out.
But I'm saying, like, that's why they beat Miami last year because he had an outstanding game.
So Jalen Milroe last year had one start you mentioned he stepped in for the in the Arkansas game. He rushed for ninety one yards, had that seven seventy seven yarder against Texas A and m This was his stat line, twelve to nineteen, three touchdown passes, one pick. He was sacked four times, had seventeen carries for eighty one yards. Sacks do count against your yardage in college football. Thirty three was the long so I forget who he had on over.
There no stats on misleading if you're going to watch that game.
Yeah, he didn't have a three touchdown one interception type performance.
A couple of short throws.
I think Jamiir Gibbs took a long one to the house on like a screen, so we'll see. Well, I'm very interested because one of my major angles early in the season is Texas money line in Week two, So I'm very interested in how Texas looks versus Rice, and how Alabama looks versus Middle Tennessee State.
I'm not going to put too much into it. I think I think Alabama defensively is elite, and I think they're metal.
Taper Well Anderson left, they could lose some guys Alabama.
I saying he had recruited let's all, yeah, let's not forget that. Alabama's last three recruiting classes, if you add them up together, is historic, how many, how much talent they've been bringing in. Your point is absolutely fair about where are the playmakers for this team? And look, I'm not in love with any one of these quarterbacks. I certainly don't know a ton about Ty Simpson, who's going to step up and take that roll over?
And let me say this, This is one point I want to make, and it's a it's a big picture macro point in twenty twenty three, the level of defense are capable of playing, to me directly, correlates also to the quality of quarterback on the other team. They're gonna nobody's shutting USC down. Not this Alabama defense, not because Caleb's gonna run round. He's gonna make plays. Pennix and the boor at Washington because of the way they fit so perfectly. And now you can't out physical everybody. You can't just beat the quarterback up and not receivers out when they you know, run crossing routes.
So there is a level of I think limits.
I want to say, there's a ceiling I think on what great defense looks like in twenty twenty three, because teams are gonna score if they have good quarterback play.
Georgia would like to have a word. How did TCUSE offense look?
Well, you guys faded TCU the last six weeks of the season.
I'm sorry, did do one title.
This is VSA in primetime with Tim Murray and Sean King on VSAI, the Sports Betting Network.
Alongside Sean King, I am Tim Murray. It is VSA in primetime of Football Friday. It started last night, handful of games and the college slate. On the college slate, I should say, and moving forward, four more FBS versus FBS games tonight, then the slate gets going tomorrow and the biggest game of the weekend, which we will discuss at length throughout the show LSU Florida State on Sunday night in Orlando, Florida. Four games coming up to at the top of the hour. We've got Central Michigan taking on Michigan State. We've got Miami of Ohio at Miami of Florida, Louisville, Georgia Tech, and Stanford Hawaii. Right now Miami sixteen and a half point favorite total of forty five. Michigan State either a fourteen or thirteen and a half point favorite, depending on where you look. Fourteen right now at DraftKings, thirteen and a half at other spots, Louisville, Georgia Tech, seven and a half, pretty much across the board, a couple sevens, including here at Circa and then late night Hawaii and Stanford mostly two and a half's DraftKings still do have a juiced three if you want to roll with the Rainbow Warriors. Sean h This came out a couple of weeks ago, maybe last week, and we haven't hadn't discussed, but I want everybody to hear a question and a question exchange with the starting quarterback of Miami of Ohio. For those who are unaware, miam of Ohio located in a quaint town of Oxford, Ohio, very nice, very nice school. And Miami of Florida actually not located in Miami. It's in Coral Cables, but close. The question and answer is one that I don't know. It might be swaying Sean's decision on where to bet tonight. So here is Brett Gabbert. A couple of weeks back, the quarterback of Miami of Ohio.
Please off the same question, but the real Miami is where Coral Gables or Oxford, Ohile.
Because you're around longer. Just nah, I think I think we'll show them September first.
So Advison live right now. Our poll question today is which underdog has the best shot of covering? And uh twenty point eight percent of voters right now are on the RedHawks of Miami of Ohio, which is a line that's actually been moving towards the Canes. The leader in the clubhouse is Hawaii plus the three thirty six point five percent. So Sean did hearing from Brett Gabbert to that sway your opinion? Do you think Mario crystal Ball is gonna be all fired up down there to make sure that the Canes show the RedHawks whose boss?
Well, I mean, I like the confidence.
First of all, Hey, you cannot play that game, Tim if you aren't confident.
I guess what I would ask Brent. And I think he got hurt last year? Did it?
Yeah? He was banged double.
They were six and seven in the MAC four and four, I mean six and seven overall, four and four in the MAC.
Like, come on, Gabt piped down a little bit man.
Who had more wins.
Again, they were below five hundred team that was five hundred in the MAC.
Like, my thing is the least they at least got to get it.
I get the confidence, but I.
Mean, listen, they didn't catch steamrolled as a twenty five and a half point favorite.
Say Tim, say a little and carry a big stick. Like the time to say that is after the game, not before the game. Like, I don't want to row these guys up, man, they might be sleepy, they might be overlooking us, Like you don't think Mario Chris Ball played that SoundBite. I don't want to give a team that's obviously got better players than us more of a more gasoline to fuel their fire. Like let them come and walk through. Probably not gonna be a great crowd down there in Miami for this time.
So about it.
I mean, we could have Middle Tennessee stated them, and now I want to go poke the bear, the bear in their hybername.
Let them stand in there and sleep.
Serious question though, because last year you were high on Tyler Van Dyke. Mario Christobal is a good recruiter. But if you think back and look back to the success they could have had with Justin Herbert, very disappointing in my opinion. Tyler Van Dyke kind of comes out of nowhere two years ago in a pretty you know, pretty solid red shirt freshman campaign twenty five over six. Then there's a ton of buzz, a ton of hype, Sean and Miami is beyond lackluster last year and Ultimately, Van Dijke gets a little banged up. What do you make of Tyler van Dyke because I remember last year you were very high on TVD.
You know, here's what's interesting. Christal Ball gets a lot of like bashing for Justin Herbert. I mean, thirty two touchdowns, six picks under Crystal Ball. It was Taggart who didn't get anything out of Herbert that year. I mean, so it's not like Herbert didn't have a good year. I mean his last two years at Oregon twenty nine and eight, thirty two and six.
So you know, I'm just saying to.
Didn't have Herbert. Herbert was drafted in twenty nineteen. A last year was twenty nineteen.
Yeah, Tiggert left USF after twenty sixteen season, if I'm not mistaken. Then he was at Oregon for the seventeen.
Seeds and went to Florida and then he went to Florida.
State after that. Yeah, so he just pretty good.
He could have been right, could have been a lot right.
I just wanted to make sure like he didn't like Herbert was pretty good there. I don't think he has Justin Herbert, now, was it? Josh Gaddis or because Michigan wasn't very good on offense when Gaddis was OC either.
So we will find out. I just will find out the night. I like Shannon Dawson.
I think this like variation of the air raid that Dawson runs is actually really good for a school like Miami because they have great athletes. It'll spread the feel out a little bit. We'll find out. I mean, we get a chance to see. I'm just saying I was either the Hurricanes with the.
Spartans and believe in one of those thorn in after Peyton Thorne was there in the spring and got.
All those reb and then left.
I kind of was like, I'm probably slat with Miami because at least in the spring it was Van Dyke and Shannon Dawson. So but I don't think both of these dogs are covering. So I hope I picked the right pony to ride. We'll find out very shortly, as that is a four pm Pacific seven pm Eastern kick.
Coming up. Top of the hour, we will have our weekly visit with Chris Andrews, sportsbook director over at the South Point. Always loved talking to him before a college football Saturday. We'll see where the action has been coming in last week. He did let us know on Friday that the biggest public side was USC four to one ticket count Trojans of course one, but did not cover against San Jose State. So we will see what is the most public side as we head into our first full Saturday. We're going to break down the card, especially after Chris comes on Brett mcmon or if you're going to join us an hour number two of the program as well. But I wanted to use this final a couple minutes here just to get your instant reactions from the four games we saw last night. You know, like I mentioned to start the show, I'm telling you right now, the world is going to be on Notre Dame next week. At NC State, it's probably going to be around a touchdown spread. I was very, very underwhelmed by the performance we saw from NC State last night. But that's a tricky place to go. It's it's you know, you're going up to the rent in you know, Hartford. So a weird spot at NC State wins twenty four to fourteen. And then I'll say this, Sean, if cam Rising's going to be out for a long time, like Hans Olsen kind of a thought would be the case. I think Utah's got some issues offensively because they had the big strike from Bryson Barnes out of the gate seventy yard touchdown pass. After that, that offense, Sean was very, very lackluster. They had two hundred and seventy yards of total offense. It's seventy players in their first play, So Utah next week at Baylor, I think I might be looking to take some baar action.
Okay, let's start the first game. It's Brendan Armstrong and nobody. I'm shocked at the lack of explosiveness the NC State has at the skill positions. So I am going to lay the points with Notre Dame Luxas does not get crazy next week, simply because n C State doesn't have a lot of firepower. If not for Brendan Armstrong running for almost one hundred yards, I think he finished with ninety six yards rushing and two touchdowns. I think Yukon wins outright because he consistently was able to you know, make Yukon caliber defenders missing space and pick up first downs and that really you know, extended a bunch of drives for NC State. On the other side of Yukon's a bowl team. They will definitely get six wins and be eligible Forore Bowl. Moris doing a great job there. They're solid middle of the rule college football team. As far as the Utah Florida Game Forest Clavalog season, good gosh, the point Napier may not make it. And it sounds crazy because the year two, man, they are bad. They're gonna be bad, like they just don't have dudes, and it's shocking that that that has gotten like that there. But we'll see. Utah I think is a solid team, nothing special. I think they're gonna be a thorn and a tough out every week. But I think the top tier teams will always have an advantage and find a way to win. But it's a good home opener for them, good win for them.
We'll see.
I don't I would not go and bet Utah now to win the Pac twelve based on what I saw, But I think they're gonna be solid. I think they're right there and that their win totals hits at eight and a half. To me, they're floor seven, their ceilings not. I just think they're right there.
They'll be a pain in the butt, no doubt with that defensive front, the uns in front's legit.
From a gambling standpoint, I will play under in the Nebraska games for a foreseeable future until something changes.
You know.
We were on this live TV yesterday and after the first series, we had Derek Stevens and Will Bow and Banksy and I kind of we were talking about something else, but I was watching the game and I made a statement. I was like, man, Nebraska's gonna be salty on defense, and they were like, how do you know that they played like one series? As a former coach, you can just tell like they played physical, They play with great effort. I'm taking the under in the Nebraska games.
To further notice, under against Colorado absolutely, Jeff Simms.
He's the other team's best player.
Chris Andrews the latest action coming in for Week one of the college football season next
