In this hour of Cashing Out, Joe Ceraulo runs through the growing list of NFL coaching vacancies. Then, college football analyst Joe DeLeone from the Ruffino N Joe Show joins the show to predict the top picks in the upcoming NFL Draft. Plus, Joe and Joe preview this week's College Football Playoff Semifinal action.
This is cashing Out on Viisend the SPORTSMANI Network.
All right, let's have some fun.
It's time for cashing Out with Joe Sialo taking you through your Tuesday night eventually into Wednesday morning. How about the terrific guest lineup that our incredible producer Adam Bernard put together for this program. We're talking college football playoffs semifinals with our guy Joe dalleone per usual in this spot. We will also now that the draft order is official, we'll get into that with Joe. What Tennessee, Cleveland and the Giants do with those top three picks? Now, Deshaun Watson reportedly having a stepback. He might not be a go for the twenty twenty five season. Does that change how the Cleveland Browns approach this draft?
It absolutely should well have.
Tony Catillo on some wild card weekend dfs, some props. You know, Tony's always money. I haven't spoken to the guy in about three weeks. We're going to have some fun Hour two and then our guy Jack Jones from Betfirm dot Com, Great Hoops Anddy Capper. He's got NBA n College Basketball action for what is going to be a fun Wednesday slate across the two sports, the NBA and college hoops. That is, make sure you interact with the show on social media at the Joe Sialo on Twitter.
I'm sure there are plenty of you out.
There who want to hand it to me on what has been a bloodbath in college oops.
I will take that one in stride. I was having a.
Ridiculously good start to twenty twenty five.
Was twelve out of fifteen, twelve and three to start the year.
I mean that was heavily aided by a seven and one week eighteen in the National Football League and college hoops. Today looking like a blood bath. The Daily Morning Bets in jeopardy of falling to zero to three as b has just suddenly collapsed in the final five or so minutes of their game against Texas Tech. They were looking like they'd be my somewhat saving grace, like they'd have my back here. Got them minus three yesterday, again minus one and a half today, and they were up five a.
Few minutes ago.
Now we look at that byu Texas Tech score twenty seconds to go, they're down seven, So stick a fork in the cougars.
They are done.
Brutal day in college hoops were still twelve and six since January first, with all of our bets so far in the new year. So I'll take that in stride. We'll get back to the drawing board for Maniana. Hey, we thought that coaching decisions, coaching firings across the National Football League might have been done. How about the Las Vegas Raiders waiting until today to make the decision, not doing so Sunday after the game, not doing so on the Monday after the NFL season concludes, but waiting until today to do. I think what we all thought was inevitable. Some people, since Week one when he punted and plus territory against the Chargers down one score late in the fourth quarter, they get rid of Antonio Pierce in Vegas. As we can throw up for those of you watching the program, the statement that the team put out the Las Vegas Raiders have relieved Antonio Pierce of his duties as head coach. We appreciate Antonio's leadership, first as an interim head coach and this past season as the head coach. Antonio grew up a Raiders fan, and his Silver and Black roots run deep. We are grateful for his ability to reignite what it means to be a Raider throughout the entire organization. We wish nothing but the best for Antonio and his family in the future.
End quote.
So that's the statement that the Las Vegas Raiders put out. Look, this one seemed doomed from the start, and I love the hiring. And I thought the Raiders finally got it right when they removed the interm label and they made a the guy. I thought it was a fantastic decision. You look at what happened with rich Bissacia there and he takes over his intern When Gruden resigns midway through the twenty twenty one season and Bisacia leads this team to the playoffs, I thought they did him wrong. I thought he should have had the interim tag removed. I thought Bisacia should have been the head coach back. Then they bring him McDaniels. His tenure there with the Raiders is an absolute disaster. So after they can McDaniels, Antonio Pierce comes in, they do what I thought was again it would have been the right thing to do to Bisaci. I thought it was the right thing to do here. They strip them of the intern label and make them the head coach. But I gotta say I was wrong about thinking this one would work out.
I mean, he just looked overmatched.
You throw in the distractions, and obviously there was that wild financial case on the side with him and his wife and what was going on there, and this thing seemed doomed.
From the start. You know.
Week one against the Chargers, I liked the Raiders caught an early three and a half. I think that one ended up closing at Vegas plus three. I thought it was a good spot at so far where the Chargers don't seem to have much of a home field advantage of anything, usually more Raiders fans so far than Chargers fans.
And the team just came out flat.
Then his decision making at the end as they're clawing and inching their way back into contention in that game, Pierce's decision making, I mean he gave it away, punted it from what was it the Chargers forty three forty two yard line, gives them the ball back, they go up two scores, Dobbins has a big drive, and then rest is history. Games over. So Antonio Pierce looked overmatched. He looked like he didn't know what he was doing as the head coach, like he was a great motivator, which is an important aspect of being a head coach.
Right.
We talked about it on yesterday's program. You get a guy like Mike McDaniel who's two concerned with being buddy buddy with his guys, and I don't believe in that. I don't think that works. I don't think he's anything but a glorified coordinator. And then you get Antonio Pierce, who's kind of the opposite of McDaniel. Not that his guys don't like him, his guys love him. I think his guys respect him more than McDaniel's crew down in Miami. But Pierce, who has all the leadership qualities and the warrior and he's a guy you want to march into battle behind. But he doesn't know the x's and o's of what the hell he's supposed to be doing.
He's overmatched. He should have.
I mean, this guy, what was he a linebacker coach at Arizona State and he was mainly there as a recruiter. I mean, you can't go from linebacker coach at Arizona State and now this year's Arizona State team. Some bad Arizona State teams. You can't go from linebacker coach at ASU to NFL head coach. It's just too big of a jump. And I saw something interesting. Lawrence Times tweeted it out. Now, obviously this is Antonio Pierce's former teammate. They won Super Bowl forty two to go with the Giants, but Lawrence Tians tweeted something out about bringing Ap home to be the Giants defensive coordinator.
I don't hate it.
This Raiders team didn't have a very talented defense, I thought. I mean, look, they had Wilkins and Crosby. Wilkins been hurt the entire second half of the year. Crosby misses like a third of the season. Outside of the pass rush in the defensive line, Raiders didn't have a lot to work with lineback and corps secondary. Not exactly a star studded defensive group outside of Wilkins and Crosby.
Two guys, right, Bring Ap to the Giants. Bring him home. I know he grew up a Raiders.
Fan and that was going home quote unquote for a lot of people. Bring him to the team he won a Super Bowl with. He was just not ready to be a head coach. He was simply overmatched. It was too much for him to handle and it was not a good situation. Now you look at where the Raiders might go from here, and this is going to be interesting because there doesn't seem to be a really deep group of candidates. Now there could be a dark horse, right you saw who was at the Bears that they reached out to David Shaw, former Stanford head coach. I thought that was kind of an Ada left field, what are we doing here type of you know, reach out. I don't know if that interview has happened yet or if it's scheduled to happen, but you look at this class and it does seem like every single organization is all in on Ben Johnson or Mike Rabel. It really seems that way. And obviously there's that next tier. Aaron Glenn I think is ready to do the job. I think Brian Flores might be a guy the Raiders should look for. You know, I don't think Ben Johnson is interested in the Raiders' job.
I almost think he'd.
Rather return to Detroit as an OC if you know, he doesn't get the New England gig. If he's not interested in Jacksonville. I mean, you look at the gigs available and the Jets. I don't see Ben Johnson being a fit there. You want him to go into a system where the offense is ready to explode. Who has that well, Jacksonville has the quarterback. I personally don't love Trevor Lawrence. I think Ben Johnson can get the best out of him.
For sure.
You got Drake May, who I think has more promise than Trevor Lawrence up there in New England. I think Ben Johnson would be a great fit there for sure. I don't think the Jets would be a fit. The Bears would obviously be a fit. That would be interesting to see if he stays within the division. But the Jets the race, I mean, the Raiders need so much. They played themselves late in the year out of getting Shad Or Sanders or cam Ward barring a what would be a ridiculous trade up. They'd have to give up an arm and a leg to move up. And you're looking at Tennessee and Cleveland probably going to take those two guys, so the Raiders don't have their quarterback. I can't see Johnson wanting to go there. I can't see him wanting to go to the Jets. They have so many question marks. They might need a gap year or bridge year with Tarad Taylor because I mean, unless they reunite with Sam Darnold, like who are you gonna get, They're not going to be able to draft a starting quarterback. They might have to just wait and play things out. It's not the most lucrative free agent class when it comes to quarterbacks.
So I think a guy like Johnson.
You're looking at the Bears, the Jaguars, and the Patriots in all likelihoods. So if you're the Raiders, maybe you want a Rabel. Maybe you look to a Brian Flores. They seem to respond well the team to a guy who's got that tough leadership mentality, right, I mean they responded well to Pierce. I think the players liked Pierce. He just I don't believe knew how to get the most out of them talent wise and how to set them up for success because he didn't know what he was doing.
I think a Rabel would play well.
I think if Flores would play well, I think that's where the Raiders should put their attention to. Now it's just on Tom Brady to decide does he want the guy who maybe mirrors Belichick a little bit of Rabel probably would or does Brady, being the best quarterback of all time, want to go the offensive guru route. And if it's not Johnson, maybe a Kingsbury or a Joe Brady. Back to catching out here on v SAN the Sports Beni Network.
Guess that continues with me Joe Sala taking you through your Tuesday night here on the program just about ten or so minutes away from talking to our guy, Joe de Leone. College football playoffs, semifinal picks, NFL draft talk coming up with.
Joe, Let's take a look at some of the live.
Action we've got going on tonight. Auburn in Texas. I mean, this one seemed done. The Tigers were up huge and the Longhorns here with a steals spot up from three now can't get it to go. They've got this a five point game with thirty seven seconds left. We'll try to pull up some live odds for you here. See what DraftKings has in the final waning seconds here Wyoming, just out of the half hosting New Mexico. They're a thirty two to twenty two with a little over eighteen minutes to play.
In that one wild night in college oops.
I mentioned it off the top because transparency is key here. I mean, we just absolutely got our asses kicked college oops tonight. This was a rough night. Tennessee decided to not show a pulse in the swamp at Florida. I mean they absolutely eviscerated John Calipari's Arkansas team On Saturday. Florida gets handed their first loss of one of six to one hundred barm burner in Lexington, Kentucky to the Wildcats. Tennessee goes to Florida, number one defense in the SEC, top five defense in the country, allowing fifty six points per game.
And the defense wasn't atrocious.
They allowed seventy three to a really good offense, but just forty three points by Tennessee that did not look play a fourteen to ZHO number one ranked team in the nation. I mean, they could not shoot the ball. What a pathetic outing by Tennessee. Four for twenty nine from deep fourteen percent. They made just twelve shots the entire damn game twenty one percent from the floor. I mean, Florida did not exactly shoot the lights out right as a team. Just put up one hundred points on the road Saturday, and they only shot thirty nine percent from the floor six of twenty from three.
They were hardly better than Tennessee from three.
Just two more made field goals a little more efficient thirty percent versus fourteen percent, but just two more made threes than the balls. It was just an absolutely disgraceful performance by Tennessee. They got bullied on the glass, minus seventeen on rebounds, fifty five to thirty eight. This was just what Tennessee team was this No one could buy a shot. You look at chas Lanier, right, he was just named to the Wood and Watch Players of the Week, which, by the way, Melvin Counsel Saint Bonaventure, he made that list of five players of the week. Cooper Flags on that list. Chas Lanier's on that list. He shot three of sixteen for the Valls, one of nine from beyond the arc, had ten points. But just an absolutely atrocious night for the guy who's the fourteenth leading scorer in the country, the senior averaging over twenty a game. The Northern Florida University of North Florida transfer just absolutely didn't show up for Tennessee.
Terrible and we had the Valls.
I gave him out on the program plus two and a half ended up taking the money line.
What a disgrace.
Kentucky, this was a game I stayed away from. I was leaning Wildcats. They couldn't stop Georgia. This Georgia offense not that impressive. Kentucky's offense top three in the country and Georgia beats him eighty two sixty nine in Athens. Just an absolute bully type of game from Georgia again, plus seven on the glass.
They out physicaled Kentucky down low.
Georgia's teams thirteen and two maybe one of the better Georgia Bulldog.
Teams we've seen in recent years.
I wouldn't be surprised unless they slip up with a really bad loss later in the week. I wouldn't be surprised if this Georgia team potentially ends up getting ranked. I mean, they're sitting in that thirty five to forty range, but with a win over number six Kentucky like that, it would not shock me if Georgia entered the rankings BYU That was a play we were on, you know, opened minus three, got down as short as minus one and a half. They're up five at the eight minute TV timeout. Texas Tech goes on a twenty four to fourteen run in the final eight minutes to beat the Cougar Saint John's.
This was one I liked and I stayed away from.
They cover minus point point and a half depending on where you shop at Xavier sent to Center in Cincinnati.
Excuse me, not an easy place to play.
So a nice little cover for Rick Patino's Johnny's there. Baylor played Cincinnati, just ran him out to gym sixty eight forty eight.
Big win for the Bears.
The Bearcats, who were ten to one before conference play began, they fall to zero to three in Big twelve action.
Some live action going on.
Ucla down at home at Paul Pavilion to Michigan forty seven to thirty seven. Second half, just open there, Auburn up five with ten seconds to go. Texas will be heading to the line and Ucla sorry, I had to hit refresh on my page.
On a bit of a run to open the second half.
They were down forty seven to thirty seven at the break, now fifty one forty eight.
They've come back.
On a little nine to a little what is that a nine to four or eleven to four run?
Excuse me or the Bruins.
At the sixteen minute time out, they are now favored. It's plus money plus a dollar ten, but they are minus a point and a half on DraftKings plus one ten as they trail by three with momentum seemingly in their favor.
Sixteen minutes to go.
Utah State nine minutes to play, they're up seven on San Jose State, they were laying nine and a half as road favorites. That's also the live number nine and a half here for the Utah State Aggies. They have entered the rankings, a lot of people calling them the best mid major team in college hoops. Right now, Auburn, this one's frozen. They were minus four and a half ten seconds to go or eleven seconds. Excuse me, They're up three as the Longhorns convert a couple of free throws. Other Mountain West Action Boys e two minutes to go in the first half, up thirty six twenty four on UNLV, the Bronx laying fifteen and a half on the live number there. We'll update that again as it hits halftime and we get a little more of a consistent live number.
That's fluctuating a bit less.
Wyoming New Mexico has cut in to that once fourteen point Wyoming lead. It's thirty two to twenty six at the under sixteen timeout, and the Lobos down six are actually favored by a point and a half on the live numbers. So it's a hectic night in college oops. Has not been a fun one for me, that's for damn sure. But we will keep you folks, updated on the action throughout the hour. Wild Card Weekend coming in hot.
Gonna have a lot of game talk, a lot of action just to piggyback off of how we open the show. Though with some coaching talk, you look at some of the other vacancies around the league. Obviously, we open talking about the news of the day, Antonio Pierce's firing and the Raiders and where they may turn. I think, you know, look, I think Mike Rabel is just the clear cut answer for several franchises right now.
I think the.
Jets should want Mike Rabel. I think the Patriots should want Mike Rabel. The Raiders, I mean Jacksonville. It wouldn't hurt. He knows that division inside out. He's wonted a few times. You know, he wouldn't look. He'd be better than any you know, and then anything that any guy those six teams could ask for. Right the only acceptable alternative to Vrabel is Ben Johnson. If you really want Johnson and you're, say the New England Patriots and your reason is Drake may or you're the Bears and your reason is Caleb Williams, I get it, man, and I agree with you. This guy I think will translate. Not everyone does it. I think he will translate from OC to head coach very nicely. Even if you're Jacksonville Trevor Lawrence there, I get it. If you're the Saints, you don't know who your quarterback is If you're the Raiders, you don't know what your future is at the quarterback position. The Jets don't know what their future is at the quarterback position. So I don't think a team like those three should be pursuing a Kingsbury a Johnson. I mean, what's Cliff Kingsbury gonna do with Spencer Rattler?
Right?
What's Liam Cohen or Joe Brady gonna do with Aidan O'Connell.
I mean, what were the Raiders this year? A four or five win team?
Maybe maybe with a great offensive, innovative mind, O'Connell can be a seven to ten quarterback. That's his ceiling six or seven wins. Right, you got to go for a leader. If you're one of those franchises, you got to go for a Vrabel of Flores. If you want Ben Johnson. We talk about these coaches so often, Antonio Pierce, Gerrod Mayo. They're not set up for success. You want Ben Johnson to be an effective head coach, you need to have your quarterback already in place, or you need to be drafting first or second this year. But neither of those teams are looking for a head coach. We're gonna talk more draft order, more NFL playoffs, and some college football playoff with our guy Joe dal Leon. You don't want to miss it. On the other side, it's Cashing Out with Joe Sorali.
Welcome back to catching out here on VSON the Sports Bening Network.
Yeah, should have continues here on VSIN with me Joe Sialo, taking you through your Tuesday night and now taking you to the progressive guest line as we welcome into the program, our friend, one half of the Raffino and Joe Show.
Make sure you catch them on YouTube.
Also catches terrific college football analysis over at Bleacher Report. My guy Joe dal leone, Joe, how you doing, my man? Happy New Year. Great to have you on. I'm doing great, Joe.
It couldn't be feeling any better since that Notre Dame win over Georgia. We were texting a little bit about it, you know, we were getting the feelings in. We're a little tense, little stressed, extremely extremely low to respond to you.
Most people know this that if there's.
A Notre Dame going on and there is a lot of intensity and severity to the outcome, I am going to be, you know, very very tense for that. But I'm gonna be at the game this Thursday in Miami, so I couldn't be any more excited.
I mean, that's a place to not be tense. Like Folks, if you don't know Joe, maybe you're new to the program. You haven't seen his recurring spots. This guy is extremely stressed and tense on a good day, all right. When we used to work together, I'd come into the office usually around nine thirty in the morning, coffee in hand, smile on my face, and Joe would be there on coffee number three, ready to rip someone's head off. And you're walking into nine thirty. I've been here since seven forty five this morning.
Do you understand what I've met? Joe? You should have been there early like I was. That's the point. It's all about the life hack man.
By leaving my apartment at nine, I missed the morning rush hour traffic. Remember that, Joe. Remember that. Let's get into the NFL draft order. Man, it's finally finalized. We know the Tennessee Titans are going to be drafting first. We've had a different team each of the last three weeks hold that one spot. But the Titans are going to retain it. What do you think they do with this spot? Cam Ward has finally reached odds on favorite territory to be the number one pick. Do you believe we know months out like we did with Caleb Williams, like we did with Trevor Lawrence, that it's going to be cam Ward or is there room to be surprised here?
I don't think that we're going to know months out, because just like that there's an evaluation process for the team's picking Shad or Sanders, there's going to be an evaluation process for the Sanders family to make that decision now. I know Deon Sanders recently tried to downplay them having that approach for the upcoming draft, but they have and should take advantage of this quarterback class. Them holding all the cards. He is likely the best quarterback in most teams' eyes. A lot of teams outside of him and cam Ward are not going to want to touch any of these other quarterbacks.
So this could be the ongoing This could be a long time.
Until we really truly determine who is going to be that first overall pick, but it would make sense for it to be sure to Sanders. One thing has become extremely clear. There is no world that they're going to try and pivot back to Will Levis.
This is not a roster or.
A team that should try and bring in a veteran quarterback and try and see if they can, you know, get anything out of the roster. This team stinks, it's awful, but it's got some young players. It has the potential if you bring in a young quarterback like Shaud or Sanders or cam Ward, that it could continue to grow and progress. Quarterback has to be the only option here. It just depends is it going to be shaudor or is it going to be cam And we probably won't know until April.
Wow, I'm surprised you think it might go to the wire.
I mean, you know, look maybe right now then in the betting market, there's value on Shador because war last I checked, was about minus one thirty five to be the first pick. I mean, Joe, to your recall, I wish we could pull up the clip right now. Back in early September, we were talking about cam Ward and saying, hey, if the Giants had a terrible season, we would love him in Giant Blue. Well, they had a terrible season, just not terrible enough to hold that top pick. Can we say it's a slam dunk no matter who Tennessee takes, be it Ward or Sanders.
Do we know at this point Cleveland's going to go quarterback?
Especially with the report that Watson may be out all of twenty twenty five.
That is actually to build off of the first question. I think that that's probably the most hardest, the most difficult thing to predict, is what Cleveland's going to do, because if you just mentioned the.
Setback, and anyone who's been tracking and.
Paying attention to Cleveland media the past couple of days, which I have been because I'm a Giants fan and I'm trying to figure out what's doing.
It has been unclear.
They have changed their mind seemingly one hundred times over the past week.
It is flip flop, flip flop.
Since this, you know, the season was done for Deshaun Watson and that that contract restructuring news came out. So I don't think that there's going to be clarity at all here. And I think that the Browns, out of any team in the top five, Joe are going to be able to cause a lot of chaos with the top five, you know, in the top five men in the top ten.
I just mentioned that this quarterback class is terrible.
They could really drum up a lot of excitement in a big market for trading up to that number two spot. And if they don't feel like they have a suitor and they don't feel like that they've got a team that is willing to really mortgage their future to move up. Even if it's the Giants just moving up one spot, they could just say, you know what, will stay pat, We'll take cam Ward and we'll sit him, and then Deshaun Watson his contract is up, he'll take over. So they are in the most control, which is crazy to say for a team that's sitting at second overall right now, and that is as bad as the Cleveland Mountain the Browns were this past season.
Yeah, it really is fascinating, man, because you look at that draft board and right now, I would be so mad if the Giants gave up assets and gave up picks to move up one spot. I really if cam Ward's well, if cam Ward's there, maybe they do it. But if he's off the board with Tennessee, I don't think should a Sanders would be worth I don't think he'd be worth picking it too. I don't think he'd be worth moving up for Joe. You're also a Giants fan. Tell me if I'm crazy, I want the Giants at number three. I'll walk away with Travis Hunter, suck for another season, and get their quarterback in next year's draft. Obviously it's a pipe dream, preferably arch Manning. But that's what I want, Travis Hunter, and then make next year the quarterback here.
What do you think?
I put that out there earlier today on another radio spot that I did that I pitched basically what you just brought up.
Take Travis Hunter.
You have the most polarizing and exciting and interesting star in the NFL when you take him. Just look at all the attention he gets. He is just an amazing young man and also a ridiculously unique football player that would thrive in a market like New York.
He would get so much attention. And then you wait for Arch Manning.
But at the same time, if there is a trade on the table for them to move up, and it would essentially be like when the Bears moved up to take Mitch Trubisky not that long ago. And I know that that's that's not a great lead in. That's not a very good lead in for Giants fans. But if there is a trade possibly in the capability, I would say that they should do it to go get Shador Sanders. I would hope that there is no ridiculous package required and that it would mostly be second and third round picks for the future and no first rounders would have to be brought into the conversation.
But Sandor Sanders has the goods and I think.
That shad Or Sanders, just like a teammate Travis Hunter, would really do well in the New York market. The biggest part that I like about him. If the Giants want to try and win right away, I think Sandor Sanders is the answer for that. Of the two quarterbacks worthy of being picked this high, Joe, I think that he could step in with his accuracy and his decision making and his poise and his ability to play through pressure playing behind a really shaky and inconsistent offensive line, that's what the Giants need. They need somebody who is cerebral. They need somebody who just knows how to play the game. After we wasted so much time and energy watching a dude like Daniel Jones, who is the least cerebral football player that we have laid our eyes on.
So you've got a duke degree, you're gonna say he's not cerebral.
Come on, no, no, no, no, no, no no, we had to define that there. He's a smart guy and he's probably gonna.
Be a great uh you know, he's gonna have a great career at Chase. You know when he when he leaves the NFL and he goes and works at a bank, right.
Well, exactly, you know financial analyst Daniel.
Jones, Right, it doesn't translate to on field stuff. He's just not a natural shore Sanders is.
I gotta say, I'm surprised you're really giving Shaudor Sanders a lot of praise. The more I watch him against good opponents, the more shaky I am on Shador Sanders, And I almost feel like he looks better because the rest of this quarterback class is just absolute crap.
But yeah, I'm.
Leaning towards let Travis Hunter come to New York. Let's address the Q situation next year. Hey, folks, we've got big news this week here at Vson. We are back. We are returning to serious XM. Starting January seventeenth, Vson's twenty four to seven programming will be available on Serious XM Channel one fifty eight en the Serious XM app. In addition to the new channel, Vson also will produce a new show for Serious XM. Vson Live on Mad Dog Sports Radio, hosted by Patrick Maher and everyone's favorite Dustin Sweedelson every weeknight from seven to ten pm Eastern on Mad Dog Radio.
Serious XM Channel eighty two.
Coming January seventeenth, Vson Channel one fifty eight on Sirius XM. We've got our guy, Joe da Leone with us on the Progressive guest line. Here half of the Raffino and Joe Show on YouTube. Joe final minute here of the segment. The fourth and fifth picks belonged to New England and Jacksonville. Would you say for the Patriots? Obviously, I'm sure they wanted Travis Hunter before they fell out of the top three.
Would you say.
McMillan from Arizona is a slam dunk sure thing to give Drake May his favorite weapon for in their minds, hopefully a decade plus to come.
No, I think one of the biggest misconceptions right now in this draft class, the receiver classes is pretty mediocre. It is not as good as people think. And Ted McMillan a really big, strong kid. I'm not taking him in the first fifteen picks. Guys now live off of contested catches. The list is long and it is not very successful. Drake London is one of the few discrepancies, and Ted McMillan is not as explosive as Drake London.
So I do not think that that's slam dunk. I think the Patriots are going to trade back, and that's why we have him on the program. More Joe.
Up next, we're going to get into the college football Playoff semi finals. He'll be at the Orange Bowl. Who does he think is going to win it?
Find out?
Up next, Cashing Out with Joe Soralla.
Welcome back to Catching Out here on v SAN, the Sports Bening Network.
Cash You Have continues with me Joe Sala, taking you through your Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning here on the program and welcoming in on the progressive guest line. Our friend one half of the Raffino and Joe Show, Joe dalleone college football expert, into the show Joe is going to be at the Orange Bowl Thursday night in Miami. Notre Dame Penn State, Joe's favorite team, my favorite team.
This is going to be a fun one Joe.
Obviously, your work as an analyst is terrific. It's why we have you on the show. You're critical of Notre Dame when need be, You're not just blinded by your fandom. So now that money has come back towards Penn State here, this one up to Notre Dame lay in two and a half.
Now they're laying one one and a half. Which side are you on?
Objectively speaking, who do you think has the edge in this game?
Yeah?
I'm sticking with Notre Dame here, and I've stuck with them during this playoff run.
I think both these teams are extremely evenly matched.
I don't think that this is gonna be a world and there's gonna be There's plenty of excited Notre Dame fans that think, look at how badly.
We just beat Georgia.
We're gonna we're gonna stop out Penn State, who hasn't played anybody during the playoff. But the reality is that Penn State is a lot more balanced than Georgia is Notre Dame needs to come into this game aggressively trying to stop the run game, and Penn State's going to try and do the same exact thing. There are gonna be duplicate, duplicate game plans for each side trying to stop the opposing team from running the ball because they want the game in the hands of Durralar and they want the hand of the game in the hands of Riley Leonard. I lean Notre Dame because in a close matchup like this, I'm going with the better coach. James Franklin has been a strong coach and he has done a good job to get his team to this point, and he has won a lot of games in his time at Penn State, but he struggles to win these top ten matchups like this. His record is poor against top ten teams, albeit a lot of those against Ohio State in Michigan. But this is one of those difficult situations where he's going to have to coach one of his best games and prepare his guys for the best possible, most difficult situation. And I think that Marcus Freeman grew up against Georgia. I think that Marcus Freeman truly matured with the way that the team not only came out swinging the way that they were able to at the start of the half get the kickoff return for a touchdown, which plays to the intensity of the team, but most importantly, Joe that call that he had on fourth and one to run out the offense after the punt team was already out there to trip up Kirby Smart. The fact that he out coached Kirby Smart, I think is a testament to where Marcus Freeman has gotten to since that awful game that he had against NIU. So in a close game like this, I'm going with the better coach.
Look everything you just said about Freeman and Notre Dame, I'm not going to dispute it.
I love Marcus Freeman.
I as a Penn State lifelong Penn State fan, wish they had Marcus Freeman on the sideline and not James Franklin.
I love that guy. It's hard to go against him.
I'm thinking about the tees, maybe the semi final tees of Penn State up through seven, up to seven and a half with Ohio State down to a pick them. But as far as this one man it is a total toss up, total coin flip, and my estimation the play I love here Joe is the under forty five forty five.
And a half. What are your thoughts about that total sitting where it is.
Yeah, that's the biggest bet that I'm like really pushing for this game is taking the under and the underhit last game. This is not a matchup where we're going to see a lot of huge, big splash plays. There's probably got to be a big long run by Jeremiah Love or Nick Singleton, or maybe a big reception, you know, down the sideline because Alader has a really nice ball and Notre Dame is loading the box trying to take away the run. But both these teams win by defense. Notre Dame wins by turning the ball over and forcing mistakes. This is not going to be one of those games where it turns into a shootout.
Neither quarterback I think is equipped.
Aler is going to be eventually a really talented quarterback prospect in twenty twenty six, but he's just not there yet. Fully, he misfires all the time. He is very inconsistent with his accuracy. Him and Leonard I don't trust them to put up some fireworks in this game.
As passers, I think Aler has more upside and more potential, And if you're going to look for a big player two through the air here, it's going to be Aller. But I think he's also more mistake prone, and that Leonard's I think the better game manager in a situation like this. I mean, look, it's going to be a play on the defensive side of the ball. I think we're in agreement that decides this one. Penn State six interceptions against SMU and Boise. People say, oh, well, how do you like the under? When Penn State's averaging, you know, thirty four game through their first two. It's because they're turning over these you know, I know SMU is in the ACC now, but for all intents and purposes, they're turning over these group of five quarterbacks and they're setting themselves up with a short field. Notre Dame is not going to make the same amount of mistakes SMU and boys you make. So that's why above any play on a side here, I like the under because I think these defenses are going to come out and shine.
How about the Cotton Bowl.
I don't want to lay six it's a big number, but I feel like it's Ohio State or pass here. Maybe I work them in on that teaser I mentioned. You know there is a five and a half floating around there, I believe behind me here at circa but still a lot of six is on the board. What are your thoughts here?
Yeah, Connon Boll this is a really tight spread for I think what the outcome of this game is going to be. I think Ohio State is going to win this thing handedly. And this line moved really aggressively the minute that it came out, and I'm surprised that it's it's kind of balanced itself with this five and a half mark. Ohio State has every capability. I'm not going to use word blowout. They're not gonna beat them by twenty points, but to win this thing by fourteen or seventeen points and to have it in hand like they did against Oregon, that is going to happen in this game. Joe I won and I talked about this, the intensity that Ohio State is playing, with the way that they are just coming out swinging relentlessly. They're playing like they've got there's nothing left to play for. There's no tomorrow for this team right now after what happened against Michigan, and that is the tone when you flip on the tape and you see what they do on a snap by snap basis biggest part though, to get into the nitty gritty of it, Texas can't run the ball.
When they face teams with a pulse of a defensive line.
They ran the ball against Clemson, who had a very porous rush defense, but they got stopped completely by Arizona State. That was why Arizona State got back into the game in the Peach Bowls. Because they couldn't run the ball, they couldn't control the clock. They were forced to throw it and then eventually quinn Ers does his thing where double coverage forces a ball interception that is going to happen in this game. Quinn Ewers is not the guy that when everything is on his shoulders. I've repeated this so many times on this show, Joe, and every time I've done it, I have been right. Whenever he has to make the big plays and the run game isn't there, he makes huge game shifting mistakes. And Ohio State secondary is too good to not take advantage of that. So I would feel pretty confident taking the five and a half. And heck, if you wanted to tease that number and make that spread larger, I would do that too, if you can get better odds.
Wow.
Yeah, I mean, look, we're on the same page with quin yours Joe. You know they were talks earlier in the season. Oh maybe if the Giants are drafting in the top five, this guy's not going to be a first round pick. It's so funny the evolution of quinn Ewers, Carson Beck. They were talked about as potential top ten picks. Jalen Milrow, forget the top ten. I don't think any of those three guys should be Day one picks at all. They are, in my opinion, you're forcing it. We're on the same page here with Ohio State. I'll just be rooting for an all Big Ten championship game, which we know Joe will not be rooting for. Which of these six is the one that you feel you have the biggest edge on? Which is your favorite side? Is there one game that you just feel man that is miss priced?
This team's going to roll? Yeah?
I think that for this Chargers Texans game, and I know that like this game, it's not going to be the most covered and closely paid attention to, but for LA to be only favored by three feels like a pretty nice one.
To grab there.
I think that this Texans team the way that they finished the season and the way that they had so many ups and downs throughout the year. We should call in a question if they're really ready for this to return to.
The playoff spotlight.
I think that this Chargers squad, I know that their finished maybe wasn't as sexy as we were hoping.
Justin Herbert is awesome.
Jim Harbaugh has this team playing just cohesively as a unit and playing together. I really like the Chargers in the spot to cover that line of minus three.
Joe was the first bet I placed when the came out. I was all over the Chargers minus three. Some people say two and a half. I didn't want to lay the twenty cents. I think they're gonna win by seven to ten, maybe more so I went with the even juice route instead of laying the twenty cents on the two and a half. I am with you one thousand percent, my man, Houston just totally backed their way into the playoffs. The Chargers as favorites ten and two against the spread this season.
