This week Voices of Taos producer Laura Martin Baseman interviews Donna Karr, director of Taos Feral Feline and Friends, to discuss their free clinic for Taos pets.
The Taos Feral Feline and Friends Spay/Neuter Clinic is approaching its 1000th free spay/neuter surgery since opening in May. Donna discusses her concern with the growing expense of pet care, especially essential procedures like vaccinations and spay/neuter surgeries. The clinic helps Taos county residents access these procedures for their cats and dogs.
Donna saw Taos’ dog and cat population grow exponentially while she was the director of Stray Hearts animal shelter from 2020 to 2022. She says, "after working at the receptacle for the problem, it's fun to be working for the solution."
The Taos Feral Feline and Friends Spay/Neuter Clinic does not take walk-ins but people can make appointments on their website or by calling the facility directly. Appointments are available Monday through Thursday.
