This week's PODCAST with Mario Corena & ''Vogliamoci Bene'', we welcome in Studio Sanremo special guests MJ, Kez and Alex from Skylight.

A bit about MJ. MJ was born in the US, and raised in Europe and Africa. A natural born communicator, she attempts to foster a safe and non-judgemental environment to invite people to discuss areas of a personal nature openly, so that they can explore their relationships freely and fully informed.

MJ completed her bachelors in Psychology (Hons) at the University of Adelaide (2021) and works full time as a Community Mental Health worker at Skylight working specifically within the Community Connections Program.  The role includes coordinating and supporting partner agencies to provide appropriate services for community members. As well as networking across the community, and a portion of direct service delivery, while also working closely with the Skylight Community Connections team members in other regions.

Questions to MJ:

  1. Why Community Connections Program (CCP)?
  2. What makes CCP special?

A bit about Kez:

Keryn has been immersed in the field of Mental Health supports since 2011 and works directly from a Lived Experience approach. She has worked in many areas, including;

  • Frontline supports in a person's home and in community settings
  • LE Consultancy and training facilitation to leaders with LE workforce
  • Program and business development - LETSS and UntingSA's first LE/NDIS pilot program
  • Leadership and program guidance
  • LE supervision

 Questions to Kez:

  1. What can a person expect if they wanted to connect with our program?
  2. Capacity building is a regularly used term in your line of work. What does it mean to you?

And a bit about Alex:

Born and raised in Germany, Alex completed her Bachelor of Arts in the UK before backpacking around the world and arriving in Australia.

Alex has had a varied career in publishing, zookeeping and conservation work, as well as various sales and project management roles across the UK and Australia.

A period of soul-searching led Alex to leave the corporate world and move into the not-for-profit sector in 2017, where she discovered her passion for mental health and psychosocial support work.

Her lived experience as a carer for a daughter with an eating disorder and her studies in mental health further cemented her values.

Alex states that the people she has had the privilege of supporting have been her greatest teachers.

 Questions to Alex:

  1. What is the impact of isolation and disconnect?
  2. Why is it so important to support people who are isolated?

And then questions to all :

  1.  What does CCP do?
  2.  What does this look like practically?
  3.  What types of groups do you do?
  4.  Who is it for?
  5.  How do we refer to CCP?
  6.  Where is the program being delivered?
