The Arkells just released their new single, Years In The Making! Then, they followed that up with their Rally announcement ft. Raptors head coach, Nick Nurse! In the interview with Max Kerman, find out everything you can expect from their Rally in Hamilton in June, if they'll ever join Nick Nurse for a Raptors practice and why Mike once at an entire large pizza from Pizza Hut to himself.

The Rally is June 20th at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton!

Well, then, if I three verge of radio, It's been a big week for the Arkels. They released a new song, New Video announced. The Arkels rally is heading back to their hometown. So Max Kerman actually on the phone with us now. Hey,

yes, our pride. Enjoy, baby.

Bring it back to your hometown in Hamilton. It's a Tim Hortons field on June 20th. How would you describe the rally? Because I went to the 1st 1 in Hamilton, and any time I find myself talking about it, it ends up being like a five minute conversation where it's music and markets and bike rides.

Yeah, I know that. Certainly. I mean, it's an opportunity for us to really dig in and get to sort of like shape the entire day. And it starts with building up a lineup of artists that were really excited about. So this time around we're bringing bleachers, uh, which is the project Jack Antonoff, and he was in fun and the Bleachers stuff is incredible, and he's produced the Taylor Swift and ST Vincent and Lord Records with K Flay coming. It was a great kind of electro both artist and a hip hop emcee from Branson named by Mighty was like my favorite rapper in Canada. So there's that. And then after that, we get a chance to think about like, you know, what are other festivities and programming that can happen around the show. So you mentioned like we have, ah, market like for artists vendors outside the stadium. There's a bike ride to the show. There's yes, there's a lot going on in town that week. And, uh, yeah, we're just really excited to be no shine a light on Hamilton. All the good stuff we have to offer.

So they're going to be a lot of similarities in the festival this year. Like with that market and the bike ride and all that jazz

way back

after the first rally, you had me wishing that there was a behind the scenes documentary because it's just hard to appreciate how much work must have actually gone into that day. Would there ever be one?

Yeah. Funny you mention that we're I can't tell you too much yet, but you're gonna you're gonna hear about this stuff,

okay?

Actually, this week, though we are every day, we're gonna put out a new clip from the rally. We just We just put up Michigan left, like so. Ah, full song from that performance is gonna be coming up this week.

That's awesome. People gonna relive it, But they can also then see, like why they need to get their tickets if they didn't go last time.

Exactly.

What was also fun, though, is you made the announcement with Nick Nurse, course head coach of the Raptors. Are you gonna put a song into the playlist for Nick?

Yeah, well, around. He's coaching team Canada the summer, uh, and he might have to be in Victoria, but what if he hasn't left yet? He'll, uh, he'll definitely be invited to the show. Well,

yeah, because I've heard you talking about how big of a music fan he is. He just sent you a list of concerts that he's been to, and that list was all over the map. Was there anything that really stood out?

I mean, he kind of likes everything someone, The reasons why I think we get along so well that he is a really variety of interest in inspiration. But I mean everything from Tracy Chapman, the Bruce Springsteen to Bruno Mars. Elton John, You know he likes. He likes to be impressed. Actually, he went to go see David Byrne from Talking Head performed recently. And

by that

I feel like that's also very fitting because, like you were mentioning earlier with that the bands and people that you have performing at the rally, it just

it kind of showcases how a collected your music is as well like in your show is because you guys do covers. You do your own music. And so it's just you get to be a music fan there, which is really cool.

Yeah, I know it's true. I totally agree. It's like we're always trying to be inspired by different things. Um, you know, And yes, it's not just, like kind of classic rock bands that that maker their way. There are years, literally, anything, ever.

So he's been on stage with you, Nick. Nurse, Do you think the tables are ever gonna turn like Are you gonna go sit on the bench with them during a game or maybe show up at practice?

Uh, I mean, I don't know how helpful I be. Uh, he, you know, the coaching staff what the Raptor has is so impressive. It's like the head coach of the Spanish national team is an assistant coach for the Raptors and that that coaches has one world championship. So if that's his assistant coach, I don't know how much I can really provide. Other than just being a good positive cheerleader.

Would you ever want Thio like if that opportunity presented itself?

Yes, supposedly, could be a hilarious thing for me to do, but I don't know how helpful

enough. The rally. June 20th. That's Father's Day weekend, and that's a little serendipitous. Since the first time you guys did this. Anthony was just celebrating the birth of his son. I was just gonna say, this is just in early. Congratulations to Anthony.

Yeah, yeah, right. You made it through two years of being a father and, uh, yeah, baby officers doing pretty damn good.

Oh, that's good to hear. And I did see on Twitter, you said, bring all the dads because someone was asking or mentioning that it was Father's Day weekend, which could be tricky. But I remember seeing a lot of lawn chairs at that first show, so it's a family friendly event.

Yeah, I mean, um, it's definitely like, you know, it's an evening conference. It's not like a kid's show by the stretch, but like one of the fun thing

about seeing the crowds at our shows litany. Especially that it's like you'll see, you know, a 20 year old in their 45 year old dad. Come to the show

and I

love that. That's actually pretty often,

and you just released years in the making, which is a super uplifting feel. Good song. Congratulations on it.

Thank you very much. You know, we're, ah for us like getting to write a song and work on the mix and record it and then put out in the world. It's like it's all very exciting for us. Um, and

we Yeah, we've been We've been working away at that particular tune for a number of months and and to be able to put it out the same week, the rally's been announced. It's been a pretty exciting time for us

now. There are a lot of pets in the video to Are they any of your pets or where they all just cast it in.

They were captured, and we did offer Mike a chance to bring his cat kitty to the shoot, but he said he'd be too stressed out and worry about entertaining Kitty s. So he thought it would be best if

I don't. I don't imagine cats or the easiest like actors on set, so I can appreciate that.

Yeah, they kind of do whatever the hell they want. So I don't know how how cooperative kid he would have been.

It's true. And I'm calling it now to the shirts that you guys wear about or like, the button up shirts. Um, with your faces on it,

Yeah,

There's just gonna be a sea of those at the rally. Those air so good.

Yeah, you're hot, like, available on our website. But we sell a lot at the shows too. Like I feel like most of our ideas that people seem to like our kind of goofy and they make us smile. And then that kind of I hope you people are attracted to that. Even like inviting Nick Nurse on stage

to play guitar was kind of a silly idea. Like, I would be kind of fun, like, what if we did that? And then you know. Sure enough, he came out the

next video you do with him. He has to be wearing one of those shirts.

Yeah, Yeah, we'll push it. But obviously you can have it if you

want.

Are you going to do another request line for this show?

Ah, yeah. The request line, um, you know, has become a kind of a staple part of the set where people can call in. There are 1 800 number and leave a message for the band question song that that is meaningful to them. That would cause a lot of people like, you know,

they assumed they were gonna play singles, But they're worried that they're not going to get to hear, like, a deep cut that is important to them. There's a chance to put the request.

That's awesome. That's actually a really cool idea. Like, I love that you guys keep doing that during that show. One more question Before I let you go on air today, we're just talking about dares that people either have followed through with or maybe initiated Are there any that you can think of for yourself or even for the band

we did Long time no one dare nick to eat a full large pizza from pizza, which is, like not it. Sounds easy, but like, the pizza would be the pretty thick. So we pulled off the side of the highway somewhere in Kelowna, and that dude finished it off. So good.

Did he have to do a show after,

I think.

Oh, thank you. Yeah, that would be a struggle.

Hey. Well, thank you so much for taking some timeto call in chat with us. And congratulations on single and the rally. All this good news.

Thank you so much. Yeah. Great, John.
