Based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Alice House is a safety, healing and empowerment organization dedicated to providing women, fem-identifying individuals and their children with affordable and confidential safe-housing, counselling and wrap around supports to recover from domestic violence. Alice House operates as a legal landlord allowing clients to build rental history while working towards safety and independence. Our 18 units range from bachelor apartments to 4-bedroom townhouses and feature security cameras, alarms, and kick-proof doors for enhanced safety measures. The average length of stay ranges from 3 months to 2 years depending on the unique needs and goals of the client. Alice House is the second step in a woman’s journey to help her achieve safety, stability, healing, and independence to break the cycle of violence for good. In addition to housing, women are provided with a robust suite of wrap-around service. Their person-centered and trauma-informed approach addresses the multifaceted effects of violence, aiming to break the cycle of family violence and empowering survivors to heal and rebuild their lives with dignity. They have led a heart-strong and grassroots operation since 1983 and are proud to be celebrating our 42nd year of respected community service.
