This winter, stay well against influenza, also known as the flu and COVID-19 by keeping up to date with your vaccinations.

The flu and COVID-19 are highly contagious.

These are the Influenza messages for parents of children aged 6 months to 5 years:

  • Getting an influenza or flu shot will protect families and children.
  • The flu vaccine is recommended for children aged 6 months to under 5 years each flu season and is just as important as other routine childhood vaccines.
  • Children under 5 years are at higher risk of complications from the flu. Even healthy children can become seriously ill, possibly requiring hospitalisation.
  • Children and babies six months or older are recommended to get a flu vaccine every year.

Every year in Australia, hundreds of children become so unwell from the flu that they need to be treated in hospital.

Some children who have the flu become so sick they can't go to childcare or preschool for two weeks or more.

Children need special protection from the flu, especially babies and toddlers. That is why the flu vaccine is free for all children aged 6 months to under 5 years of age.

Book now with your pharmacist or doctor.

And remember, you can help your family and yourself stay well this winter.
