Simon 'Punchy' Williams is a genuine VAFA Legend. After his playing days finished up he became the coach of Old Brighton taking them to the 2013 Premier B title, he then moved across to the Caulfield Grammarians and took them to the Premier B promised land in 2019. For 2021 and 2022 he navigated the Fields time in William Buck Premier helping them to their first win in A-Section for over a decade.  Williams shares his thoughts, experiences and challenges of coaching as well as some of the great memories he has stored over the journey. St Bede's Mentone/Tigers Women's coach Belinda Ousley is the next guest on Russell Barnes' VAFA Legends series.  Ousley took the Tigers through the perfect season in 2022 that saw them claim the Premier C Women's title, and Belinda awarded the VAFA's coach of the year honour.  With the club playing off in both the Reserves and Seniors Grand Finals, Ousley was able to navigate the finals series, and Grand Final week with her father in hospital and unable to be at the ground, a personal moment of toughness brought about a bittersweet moment on Grand Final Day for the Ousley family. George Wakim joined the Preston Bullants when his son Daniel was coming through the junior ranks, when the club decided to create a senior team, Wakim became their first-ever senior coach in 2013. His results were as incredible as they were immediate, leading his chargers to four senior flags in 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2019. He was named the VAFA Coach of the Year for the first time in 2014 following his side’s 24-point Division 3 Grand Final win over Richmond Central. Just two years later, Wakim was named the Coach of the Year (Divisions) yet again on the back of their incredible 12-point win over St John’s in Division 2.

The Grand Final review edition of For the Love of the Game has a purple flavour to it as Collegians won their 18th A-Grade title over St Kevin's by 85 points. We are closing in on the William Buck Premier Grand Final. Collegians will face off against St Kevin's for the third time in 5 years for the ultimate prize. Twice it's fallen the way of St Kevin's, can the Lions find redemption on the final day of the season? Hear from Old Camberwell coach Anson Brownless in the lead-up to their Grand Final in Premier C against Old Ivanhoe. The Wellers have done the double climb to elevate themselves into Premier B in 2024. 

In an incredible performance, St Kevin's have produced a three-peat in the final game of the season. St Kevin's have booked the second spot in the William Buck Premier Grand Final after beating University Blues by 45 points.  Hear the Saturday warm-up with Joey Pignataro and Josh Heriot. The William Buck Premier finals series kicked off with a bang on Saturday. Collegians trailed by 4 goals at the 20 minute mark of the final quarter before producing a stirring comeback to advance to the Grand Final. In Premier B, Beaumaris ended in a draw with De La Salle going onto win in extra time thanks to five-goals from Joel Cusack who joined Joey Pignataro and Josh Heriot in this edition.

St Kevin's know this month so very well and didn't put a foot wrong against Old Scotch as they advanced into the Preliminary Final for 2023.  Hear from Anthony Lynch (St Kevin's), Mark Gnatt (Old Scotch) and the complete Sunday warm-up before the first bounce. In an all-time classic semi-final, Collegians are the first side through to the 2023 William Buck Premier Grand Final. Trailing by 24 points early in the game, and then falling behind by the same margin, the Lions produced a win for the ages with Ben Woodfull kicking the matchwinner in the dying seconds to win the game. Old Melburnians will remain in William Buck Premier in 2024 after finishing the season in eighth spot on the ladder, a mere 1.62% ahead of Old Haileybury who will feel heartbroken to be heading back to Premier B next year. Kylie Da Fonte is the only female in the MHSOB Hall of Fame, in 2020 the VAFA awarded her with a certificate of merit for her services to her local club but also to the time and dedication she has put into the Big V program. Da Fonte has been part of state representative sides for over 2 decades, a role she initially undertook alongside her dad.  For many VAFA players who've worn the Big V in recent times, they no doubt will have been treated and looked after at some stage by Da Fonte.

Joe Pignataro is joined by Nick Duxson on this weeks edition of For the Love of the Game.  While all eyes are on Collegians after their trouncing of Uni Blues in the top-of-the-table clash, the University Blacks produced their best win of the season against St Kevin's.  Joey reveals his Big V starting 22 to take on the Perth Football League on Saturday, July 15. Plus, is there anything we can do about sides forfeiting in the reserves? How can we level up the playing field in the Divisions? 

Uni Blacks turned up in style ready for a 4-quarter showdown against the reigning premiers St Kevin's. Signalling their intent from the opening term, the Blacks held the lead for most of the afternoon, holding on by 7-points.  Hear from Dale Bower (Uni Blacks), Anthony Lynch (St Kevin's), the pre-game ceremony plus Blacks legend Scott 'Scooter' Myers, who's played a significant role in the club hosting an annual NAIDOC round match. 

The top-of-the-table clash turned into one way traffic very early on in the contest as Collegians put the University Blues to the sword to the tune of 94 points.  Hear pre-game interviews with Guy Martyn (Uni Blues), Jared Rivers (Collegians), half-time chat with Collegians legend, Fergus Watts. Luke Beveridge is the current coach of the Western Bulldogs in the AFL. He is the second Premiership coach at the Whitten Oval, bringing the trophy home to the Dogs in 2016 in the most famous of Grand Finals. Before that, he was and still remains as the only 3x Premiership coach in the VAFA to guide a team (that being St Bede's) to three straight premierships, C-Section in 2006, B-Section in 2007 and A-Section in 2008. No club has done so before him, no club has done so since then.  Beveridge joins Joe Pignataro and Russell Barnes to outline how he joined the club, the three straight titles, and the fondest memories he has at the Western Bulldogs.
