Faced with rampant gang violence and widespread protests, Haiti’s government is being forced to contend with a decades-long legacy of government corruption and institutional decay in the wake of former President Jovenel Moïse’s assassination, earlier this year.
But a recent decision by the country’s current leader, Ariel Henry, to appoint a controversial figure as police chief just months after firing the justice minister and the chief prosecutor who believed he had something to do with President Moïse’s assassination has left many questioning Henry’s leadership.
