The Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Dean Macpherson, expected to sign memoranda of understanding with three municipalities, in an effort to improve infrastructure delivery at local government level. The signing of the MOUs follows a decision taken at the Presidential Infrastructure Coordinating Council to embark on this pilot project. Following a meeting late last year, the council had identified a number of priority areas, including the 19 Completed Strategic Integrated Projects (SIPs) valued at R26 billion, of those projects, 6 were in the Transport sector, 3 in in the Water and Sanitation, 1 in the Energy sector, and the rest were in the Human settlements and Student accommodation sectors. Former head of the National Prosecuting Authority Vusi Pikoli has told the Truth and Reconciliation Commission that the independence of the National Prosecuting Authority must be protected, even while maintaining cooperation with the government. Pikoli says his approach was always based on tactical flexibility, sharing information where necessary without compromising the NPA's constitutional independence. Pikoli also recalled a meeting with several ministers where concerns were raised about prosecutions linked to apartheid-era activities. He says some feared that pursuing certain cases could trigger renewed calls to prosecute former liberation movement members for actions before 1994. Suspended SAPS Organized Crime Head Richard Shibiri says he did not get himself involved but was tasked by General Shadrack Sibiya to find out what charges Katiso KT Molefe was arrested on. Shibiri was responding to Evidence Leader Lee Seegels-Ncube's question on his invoment in the arrest of Katiso KT Molefe whilst he was on leave and off duty.
