Parliament's Portfolio Committees on Transport and Home Affairs have expressed shock at the widespread abuse of Traffic Register Numbers, or TRNs, allegedly by criminal syndicates. MPs heard that around one million TRN applications may have been supported by fraudulent documents. The committees say the system has been exploited to open bank accounts, purchase vehicles and bypass immigration controls.
