The community of Wedela near Carletonvile, west of Gauteng are living in fear as learners at the local high school are being prevented from attending classes for three weeks now. The Wedela Technical school decided to close the school down because of low resources.Residents claim that illegal miners are terrorising both parents and children The have invaded the school and stolen school infrastructure, including computers.There is no electricity at the school due to cable theft by the Zama Zama's. A concerned parent, Sinawo Mbiko says that ther concerns has fallen on deaf ears as the police has done nothing to assist them. Suspended EMPD Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi has come under intense questioning at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry over his decision to respond to a 2am call linked to an alleged police success. Commissioners pressed Mkhwanazi on why he rushed to the scene without confirming who was running the operation or whether it was officially sanctioned. Mkhwanazi admitted he acted on information from an informant, saying it was common practice to respond at any hour even without full details. He told the commission he had hoped the EMPD could take over the operation and claim the recovery. However, he conceded that in this case, that never happened, and the operation was not recorded through official police channels.
