“The ANC painted us into this corner, and now they have to start making very difficult political decisions” - Economists weigh in on budget 2025 expectations

View descriptionShare

Analysts expect that South Africa's National Budget will be passed following significant consultation among parties within the government of national unity.  This comes as Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana, prepares to make his third attempt at tabling the National Budget this afternoon (Wednesday 21 May) in Cape Town, following a standoff over a VAT hike which National Treasury has since withdrawn.  A lower economic growth projection below the National Treasury's previous 1,9-percent forecast for this year, is also anticipated.  Naledi Ngcobo reports and Sakina Kamwendo spoke to Independent Economist and Columnist, Duma Gqubule and chief economist at the Efficient Group, Dawie Roodt
