The situation remains relatively calm in and around Diepkloof hostel in Soweto with traffic flowing normally along the Chris Hani road, which passes adjacent to the hostel. Police are stationed strategically along the route following clashes between protestsing locals and authorities on Monday morning. Residents are demanding proper, flushing toilets and electricity at the hostel. They have expressed concern that they are forced to share a few communal taps, as the hostel's structure continues to crumble around them. Bongiwe Zwane spoke to Deputy Director for Media Relations at the City of Johannesburg, Nthatisi Modingoane.
