The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research has announced that the month of September 2022 recorded more loadshedding than the whole of the year 2020. This was revealed through CSIR's annual statistics on power generation in South Africa. CSIR's Senior Researcher, Monique Le Roux however adds that this year has been the most intensive loadshedding year to date, concentrated in both the months of July and September. The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has detected two polio virus strains in wastewater samples from a treatment plant in Cape Town, Western Cape. The detection is part of the NICD's routine environmental and wastewater testing aimed at proactive, population-wide disease tracking. The group spent the night outside the Durban Refugee Reception Centre. Wivine Bahati from the Democratic Republic of Congo says many remain afraid to return to their communities following recent immigration tensions in Durban. She spoke to Sakina Kamwendo.
