The South African Policing Union (SAPU) is calling on President Cyril Ramaphosa to urgently reinstate General Fannie Masemola as National Commissioner of the South African Police Service. SAPU says evidence before the Madlanga Commission has raised serious questions about the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption’s handling of investigations and the legal basis of charges against senior police officials. The union wants National Director of Public Prosecutions Advocate Andy Mothibi to clarify whether the charges against Masemola will be withdrawn or proceed.
