A mass protest is currently underway in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape today against the high level or crime in various communities.  Community members of Mthatha say they are struggling with femicide, extortion, murder and stock theft. The protest march is taking place a day after the national police commissioner, Gen Fannie Masemola, was in Mthatha to update on the police intervention which is focusing on extortion. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to SABC reporter, Nomzwanele Bacela, in Mthatha.

Former Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Zizi Kodwa says he is ready to assume his duties within the ANC. Kodwa was speaking shortly after corruption charges against him were withdrawn earlier today by the Director of Public Prosecutions. This as close to 600 zamazamas were forced to come to the surface after police and the SANDF stopped supply of water and food to them. An unknown number still remains underground.
