Sporadic reports recently of young people, especially females, being allegedly lured away from their homes on the promise of lucrative jobs only to find themselves being trafficked for sex- has caused mass panic and paranoia in the country. While cases of kidnappings, abductions and missing persons are also on the rise, a Social Development Trafficking in Person's Indaba last year revealed that at least more than one person is trafficked in South Africa per month. This number includes children and adults lured in or out of the country under false pretences. As we start a new series looking at Human Trafficking, today we bring you a story of Grizelda Grootboom, a survivor who has seen it all: from being homeless, living in shelters and being gang raped, to being hooked on drugs and prostitution…today she is still standing and fighting for the rights of prostitutes and the homeless...she shares her story...
