Professor Firoz Cachalia says he is not distracted by the noise around his appointment. He says he  is ready to serve and tackle the task bestowed on him by President Cyril Ramaphosa in the appointment of Police Minister following  the suspension of Senzo Mchunu. This morning Professor Firoz Cachalia was  officially sworn in to become Police Minister following the KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi's allegations that senior police officials, including Mchunu, were corrupt and had ties to criminal syndicates. Professor Firoz Cachalia ready to serve as Police Minister

Former head of the National Prosecuting Authority Vusi Pikoli has told the Truth and Reconciliation Commission that the independence of the National Prosecuting Authority must be protected, even while maintaining cooperation with the government. Pikoli says his approach was always based on tactical flexibility, sharing information where necessary without compromising the NPA's constitutional independence. Pikoli also recalled a meeting with several ministers where concerns were raised about prosecutions linked to apartheid-era activities. He says some feared that pursuing certain cases could trigger renewed calls to prosecute former liberation movement members for actions before 1994. Suspended SAPS Organized Crime Head Richard Shibiri says he did not get himself involved but was tasked by General Shadrack Sibiya to find out what charges Katiso KT Molefe was arrested on. Shibiri was responding to Evidence Leader Lee Seegels-Ncube's question on his invoment in the arrest of Katiso KT Molefe whilst he was on leave and off duty.
