The Police Minister Senzo Mchunu says the police are finally turning the tide in the fight against crime as the latest statistics show an overall decrease in crime. Mchunu, was presenting the quarterly crime statistics today, reflecting on crimes that occurred during the third quarter of the current financial year. South Africa's third quarter crime statistics reveal a 9.8% decrease in murder, with 6,953 recorded fatalities. However, Gauteng, Kwa-Zulu Natal, Eastern and Western Cape, are a major obstacles in the fight against crime as they dominate on criminality. Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal remain the highest contributors to overall national murder figures, accounting for 25.0% and 21.4%, followed by the Eastern Cape at 18.9% and the Western Cape at 17.4%.
