Miners who are still underground at a Stilfontein Mine in North West have reportedly resorted to cannibalism to stay alive. This according to a chilling letter that surfaced on Christmas Eve. The desperate miners claim that many of their colleagues from shaft 10 have also mysteriously disappeared while trying to escape. Elvis Presslin spoke to Sabelo Mnguni, National Administrator of the Mining Affected Communities United in Action (MACUA) and Spokesperson for the Stilfontein Crisis Committee.

As most South Africans prepare to ring in the new year, two communities left devastated following two drowning incidents. Two devastating drowning incidents have marred the festive season. On Christmas Day, a child went missing while swimming with friends near the N2 Freeway, Swartkops River Bridge. Despite a swift response from emergency services, the child's body was recovered, and sadly, they were pronounced deceased. In a separate incident, a 53-year-old fisherman was found deceased on rocks along the shoreline at Seaview, Gqeberha. Operations to process pedestrians and small vehicles is continuing without major challenges at the Lebombo Border Post, in Mpumalanga amid sporadic protests in Mozambique. The processing of trucks has been brought to a complete halt for safety reasons. Border Management Authority Commissioner, Dr Michael Masiapato says travellers using this port of entry significantly declined on Christmas Eve.
