President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa as the new Minister of Electricity.  Speaking to the nation on Monday night, the president said the new minister's primary task will be to significantly reduce the severity and frequency of load shedding as matter of urgency  Ramokgopa was working in the presidency before he was appointed minister of electricity. He also served as Mayor of Tshwane from 2010 to 2016.  A civil engineer by training, Ramokgopa entered formal politics as a ward councillor for the ANC in Tshwane in 2000.  Amina Accram filed this report.

Gauteng Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Major General Fred Kekana, presenting the crime statistics for Gauteng for the first quarter of the 2026 financial year. Kekana says overall contact crime in Gauteng decreased by three percent during the first quarter. However, attempted murder, assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, and common assault increased. Kekana revealed Gender-based violence and femicide cases declined by 9.1 percent, while property-related crime fell by 2.7 percent.
