 Police have launched a manhunt after three inmates have escaped from holding cells at the Tshamutumbu police station outside Thohoyandou in Limpopo. Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant colonel Mamphaswa Seabi has warned community members not to confront the prisoners, as they are considered to be dangerous, but to rather contact the nearest police station. One of the escapee 45 year-old Caiphus Kwinda was sentenced to life imprisonment for rape.  Sakina Kamwendo spoke to Lieutenant colonel Mamphaswa Seabi

Gauteng Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Major General Fred Kekana, presenting the crime statistics for Gauteng for the first quarter of the 2026 financial year. Kekana says overall contact crime in Gauteng decreased by three percent during the first quarter. However, attempted murder, assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, and common assault increased. Kekana revealed Gender-based violence and femicide cases declined by 9.1 percent, while property-related crime fell by 2.7 percent.
