Mangaung Municipality officials say it was unnecesary for striking workers to set the Bloemfontein City Hall on fire, as negotiations are underway. The historical City Hall was gutted by flames last night when striking Mangaung Metro workers, affiliated to trade union SAMWU, set furniture alight. They reportedly became angry when the Mayor, Olly Mlamleli, failed to meet them on their demands for salary increases. The municipal strike has lasted more than a month. Day 10 of the TRC Cases public hearings today hear the testimony of two individuals related to Afrikaner Interest group Afriforum. Kallie Kriel , CEO of Afrifirum has asked the Khampepe commission of Inquiry to ensure that the principle of equality before the law is restored by focusing not only on the prosecuted members of the armed forces, but also on all those who have failed to apply for  or obtain amnesty,  including the so-called ANC 37.
