Zakhele Mthethwa, the 22-year-old man seen in a viral video allegedly assaulting an elderly woman, has appeared in court. The charge against him has been upgraded from assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to attempted murder. Mthethwa has been remanded in custody to secure legal representation through legal aid and is expected back in court on Thursday, 11 June 2026.
