The main water supply to Gauteng and Free State, is to be cut off for six months. The governments of South Africa and Lesotho have officially commenced the six-month maintenance shutdown of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP) tunnel. The Lesotho Highlands Water Project  is a critical infrastructure that supplies water to South Africa and generates hydropower for Lesotho.
