The interception of food supplies headed for illegal mining activities at various shafts around Welkom in the Free State has forced some illegal miners to the surface in a bid to escape starvation underground. The Free State based Operation Vala uMgodi that forms part of the national intervention against illegal mining operations has managed to halt illegal operations in one of the shafts. The task team, which has been in operation since December has to date arrested about two-thousand-800 zama zamas. Konelo Lekhafola reports...

The Bergville Magistarate's Court, in KwaZulu-Natal, has remanded in custody, a 33-year-old man who is accused of the stabbing deaths of 5 members of his family, including 2 girls, aged 2 and 6. The man made a brief appearance in court this morning, where the case against him was postponed to tomorrow. He allegedly went on the rampage with a deadly knife and attacked the occupants of his home at the weekend. The man's mother and a toddler, survived the attack and are in a critical condition in hospital. Outside court,  Nomusa Sithole-Moloi from the ANC Women's League gave this latest update while making the call for no bail for the suspect..

ANC Women's League calls for court to deny bail to 33-year-old man accused of the stabbing deaths of 5 members of his family

The SACP says its criticism of the Government of National Unity is not an opposition stance against the ANC but rather an opposition to the Democratic Alliance's inclusion in the pact. This follows ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa call to South Africans not to judge the GNU on the political orientation of the parties that constitute the pact but rather on the work it has done to change their lives. SACP national spokesperson, Dr Alex Mashilo says it is worrisome for the SACP to only have one member of its party within the GNU...

The 46-year-old suspect linked to the shooting and killing of 18 people at Ngobozana village in the Eastern Cape has abandoned his bail hearing and the matter has since been moved to the 26th of November. This as scores of local residents filled the local magistrate in Lusikisiki to capacity in anticipation of the suspect's appearance.  Many of the locals have since taken to the streets in protests, carrying placards written, 'No Bail'. The 45 year old suspect is facing murder charges and being in possession of an illegal firearm. Our colleague Nkululeko Nyembezi caught up with victims family spokesperson David King for a reaction
