Police in Mpumalanga are investigating murder and inquest cases after two teenagers were found dead at a lodge in Sabie. A 17-year-old girl may have been strangled, while a 19-year-old man may have taken his own life. The deaths were initially investigated as an inquest, but a murder case was opened following post-mortem results. Johannesburg Emergency Management Services says a fire at the corner of Mooi and Kerk Streets in the CBD has been contained. The fire started on the second floor. No injuries have been reported. Firefighters remain on scene, while investigations will follow.

The Madlanga Commission has recommended disciplinary action and criminal investigations against suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya, Sergeant Fannie Nkosi, Witness G and alleged political fixer Brown Mogotsi. The commission says prosecutions should follow if sufficient evidence is found. The recommendations form part of the commission's second interim report, noted by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
