The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) says it has taken steps to address the allegedly unlawful use of Starlink in the country. Starlink is a low-Earth orbit satellite broadband service operated by SpaceX, in which South African-born Elon Musk owns an estimated 42% stake.  Independent Communications Authority confirms probe into allegations that Starlink is illegally operating in SA

KwaZulu-Natal police say a 22-year-old suspect who had been arrested for attempted murder was shot and killed after attacking officers inside the holding cells at Ntuzuma police station on Monday morning. Police say the suspect overpowered two officers, took keys to the main door and assaulted them before grabbing a firearm from responding officers and opening fire. Tactical teams later intervened and fatally wounded him. Two officers sustained minor injuries during the scuffle. Authorities say the situation was contained after several tense minutes. Suspect shot dead in Ntuzuma police cells shootout

Former head of the National Prosecuting Authority Vusi Pikoli has told the Truth and Reconciliation Commission that the independence of the National Prosecuting Authority must be protected, even while maintaining cooperation with the government. Pikoli says his approach was always based on tactical flexibility, sharing information where necessary without compromising the NPA's constitutional independence. Pikoli also recalled a meeting with several ministers where concerns were raised about prosecutions linked to apartheid-era activities. He says some feared that pursuing certain cases could trigger renewed calls to prosecute former liberation movement members for actions before 1994.
