Eastern Cape police have launched an investigation into the causes of two separate car accidents, which claimed the lives 17 people since. In the first incident 14 people were killed when two vehicles including a minibus taxi collided on the N9 route, outside Graaf Reinet. In the other incident a car and a van collided killing three people and injuring two others wounded on the R-61 near Bizana yesterday. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to Eastern Cape Transport spokesperson, Unathi Binqose.

President Cyril Ramaphosa is delivering the keynote address to mark the National Day of Reconciliation today. This year's event will be held at a sportsground in Vredendal in the Matzikama Local Municipality in the Western Cape. The theme for the 2024 National Day of Reconciliation is Healing Historical Wounds and Forging New Futures. The National Day of Reconciliation is a public holiday in South Africa held annually on 16 December. The holiday came into effect in 1995 after the end of apartheid, intending to foster reconciliation and national unity for the country.

Passengers and small vehicles are being processed at the Lebombo border post between South Africa and Mozambique. Meanwhile, the processing of trucks at the border post in Komatipoort, Mpumalanga, remains suspended. This is due to safety concerns as post-elections unrest continues in some parts of Mozambique. Protesters in that country have reportedly been targeting these trucks to block the roads. Those travelling to Mozambique have been advised to use the Mananga border post between South African and eSwatini. Jon Gericke spoke to SABC News reporter, Michael Mdluli

SACP leader, Solly Mapaila says the ANC has failed to treat its alliance partners with respect and equality. Mapaila is tabling the Political Report to the SACP Special National Congress underway at Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre in Boksburg. Mapaila says the electoral decline of the ANC is worrying. The unfortunate part is that they never had an opportunity to discuss this with the ANC. Jon Gericke spoke to former premier of Gauteng and former Cosatu General-Secretary, Mbhazima Shilowa
