National Police Commissioner, Fannie Masemola has confirmed that he has not signed off on the closure of the high profile political killings task team investigating political killings in the country. This follows a media briefing on Sunday by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi who alleged that Police Minister, Senzo Mchunu had ordered the closure of the task team. The task team was formed in 2018 to investigate politically motivated murders in KZN but has since been used in other provinces, as it had uncovered - according to Mkhwanazi - links between drug cartels, politicians, police, and prosecutors.
