The Competition Appeal Court has thrown out the case against 23 of the 28 banks that were accused of rigging the rand by the Competition Commission. The case was dismissed against all the South African banks appealing the matter, except Investec. The Commission suggested that the implicated banks in the alleged rand manipulation generated about a trillion rand a day between 2007 and 2013. The court has found that the commission has failed to produce sufficient evidence to implicate the institutions in wrongdoing.
