The Eastern Cape province has today received its fair share on the deployment of the South African National Defence Force members to crime hotspots in parts of Eastern Cape to support the South African Police Service. Troops are moving into high-risk areas following an announcement by Cyril Ramaphosa during the State of the Nation Address. However, a professor from Stellenbosch University warns that the show of force risks weakening police accountability and long-term crime-fighting efforts.
