The 46-year-old suspect linked to the shooting and killing of 18 people at Ngobozana village in the Eastern Cape has abandoned his bail hearing and the matter has since been moved to the 26th of November. This as scores of local residents filled the local magistrate in Lusikisiki to capacity in anticipation of the suspect's appearance.  Many of the locals have since taken to the streets in protests, carrying placards written, 'No Bail'.  Police Minister, Senzo Mchunu has arrived in Stilfontein in the North West where an estimated 4000 illegal miners remain trapped underground. This as police have been conducting operation Vala Umgodi in the area by blocking supply routes of water and food to the miners. Local community members have since been volunteering to rescue the trapped miners while the police remain on standby to arrest them once on the surface. Before we bring you the latest from the mine, earlier on I caught up with Masibulele Naki, regional secretary of the National Union of Mineworkers in the North West who gave us a brief personal history of the mine...

North West community members continue to volunteer in efforts to rescue illegal miners, as police remain on standby to effect arrests.

Limpopo Premier, Phophi Ramathuba is expected to appear before the Health Professions Council of South Africa. This is over her utterances captured on video to a patient from Zimbabwe in 2022 in which she is alleged to have said that Zimbabwe does not assist with money to care for its nationals being treated in Limpopo hospitals. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to SABC reporter, Horisani Sithole

Open Secrets is calling on  the National Prosecuting  Authority (NPA)  to urgently probe alleged  'looted Congolese funds' funneled into SA properties. In 2023, Open Secrets and Platform to Protect Whistleblowers in Africa lodged a complaint with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) seeking a seizure and forfeiture order against properties believed to have been purchased with corrupt cash by relatives and associates of former DRC president Joseph Kabila. Open Secrets says South African  authorities failed to follow up on the complaint despite efforts to improve money laundering. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to Abby May, Investigator at Open Secrets.
