 It has been four years since the families of three miners trapped underground  Lily Mine, near Barberton in Mpumalanga, set up a camping site on the periphery of the mine. The three workers Pretty Nkambule, Yvonne Mnisi and Solomon Nyerenda were working in a container used as lamp room, when it fell down a sinkhole at the mine in 2016. The three are yet to be retrieved and as the country will be celebrates the May day, the families of the three are once again pleading with government to find their loved ones. The Madlanga Commission says it has made demonstrable progress as it marks one year of inquiry into criminality, political interference and corruption in the criminal justice system. The Commission says the one-year mark is a significant milestone, particularly considering that real consequences have flowed from its work while the inquiry is still underway. Numerous individuals who have appeared before the Commission have been arrested, are facing criminal charges, have appeared in court, been suspended, or resigned from their jobs.  Jeremy Michaels is the Madlanga Commission spokesperson

Madlanga Commission marks one year of progress.

Three men have been killed in a shooting incident in Khayelitsha on the Cape Flats. Police are searching for a suspect following the incident, which happened on Wednesday morning. Police spokesperson FC van Wyk says, “SAPS members responded to the above mentioned scene and found the body of an adult male with multiple gunshots inside a grey Toyota vehicle. About 500 metres from the scene, another body of an adult male was found with multiple gunshot wounds to it. Whilst on the second scene, another body was discovered in Tabang Street.” 

“Preliminary investigations indicate that all three deceased persons were inside the Toyota vehicle when another passenger randomly started shooting at fellow passengers. The suspect subsequently fled. The deceased males are yet to be identified,” says Van Wyk.
