"Families are being cornered to make difficult choices and compromises"- Organisation notes significant increase in household food items cost

The country's Gross Domestic Product has grown by a mere 0.1 percent in the first quarter of this year as compared to the forth quarter of 2024. Four of the ten industries on the production side of the economy recorded positive gains, with agriculture driving most of the upward momentum. Agriculture production increased by 15,8%, adding 0,4 of a percentage point to GDP growth with good rains contributing to the industry's fortunes. Statistician-General, Risenga Maluleke explains further and Sakina Kamwendo spoke to Sibusiso Mbotho from the Pietermaritzburg Economic Justice & Dignity's Household Affordability Index.
