The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Eastern Cape are yet to identify the two people killed alongside the suspected Mthatha extortionist Dalinzolo Mareke. The Eastern Cape MEC for Community Safety, Xolile Nqatha, has commended the actions of the police in Mthatha yesterday. Mareke and the two men were shot dead after they allegedly started shooting at the members of the National Intervention unit who returned from an operation in Mthatha west. O.R. Tambo District Police Commissioner, Major-General Phumzile Cetyana says he shooting incident happened after the suspects confronted officers. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to SABC reporter, Nkululeko Nyembezi.

Eastern Cape MEC for Community Safety commends police action a day after suspected Mthatha extortionist, Dalinzolo Mareke, and 2 others, were gunned down

The Vredenburg Magistrate's Court, in the Western Cape, has postponed to 21 October 2024, the case against 4 people accused of involvement in the disappearance of 6-year-old, Joslin Smith. The accused made a brief appearance in court this morning, where new evidence was heard after it came to light, resulting in the state's request for a postponement for further investigations.  It has been nearly 7 months since Joslin went missing from her home in the Middelpos informal settlement, in Saldanha Bay. The four accused, including the little girl's mother, Kelly Smith, and her boyfriend, Jacquen Appollis, face charges of trafficking in persons with the purpose of exploitation and kidnapping. Mother of 6-year-old, Joslin Smith and three co-accused, appear stoic as case is postponed again

The Praktiseer Magistrate's Court, outside Burgersfort, in the Limpopo province is expected to heard the case against two suspected kingpins allegedly behind illegal mining after they were arrested for allegedly being in possession of chrome valued at over 20-million rand.  They are believed to be directors of an organization that deals in the illegal trade of minerals. Their case is expected to be joined with one against Geologist, Jan Aucamp, who was arrested on a similar charge in December last year. SABC reporter, Rendani Raliphaswa has more

Money, sharp objects and cellphones were some of the illegal items found and confiscated during a raid at St Albans Correctional Center in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape in the early of hours of Today. The unannounced search operation was led by Correctional Services National Commissioner, Makgothi Thobakgale.
