The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Eastern Cape are yet to identify the two people killed alongside the suspected Mthatha extortionist Dalinzolo Mareke. The Eastern Cape MEC for Community Safety, Xolile Nqatha, has commended the actions of the police in Mthatha yesterday. Mareke and the two men were shot dead after they allegedly started shooting at the members of the National Intervention unit who returned from an operation in Mthatha west. O.R. Tambo District Police Commissioner, Major-General Phumzile Cetyana says he shooting incident happened after the suspects confronted officers.
