State-owned arms manufacturer, Denel is appearing before parliament's Standing Committee on Public Accounts today on a number of issues including the entity's liquidity status as well as investigations that have been conducted by the Special Investigating Unit. The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has detected two polio virus strains in wastewater samples from a treatment plant in Cape Town, Western Cape. The detection is part of the NICD's routine environmental and wastewater testing aimed at proactive, population-wide disease tracking. The group spent the night outside the Durban Refugee Reception Centre. Wivine Bahati from the Democratic Republic of Congo says many remain afraid to return to their communities following recent immigration tensions in Durban. She spoke to Sakina Kamwendo.
