The Department of Social Development has expressed shock and dismay at a video that has gone viral on social media platforms, which a man is purportedly seen assaulting an elderly woman. Minister Sisisi Tolashe says she has instructed officials to follow up on the information at their disposal to ensure that the perpetrator is brought to book. In a statement, the department noted a concern over the increase in the number of older persons who are abused despite government's efforts to strengthen key guiding legislation and related frameworks. Department of Social Development confirms that an elderly woman has suffered a stroke and is now hospitalised after she was assaulted  by a 19-year-old in a video that has gone viral

Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni government priorities are still based on the Medium Term Strategic Framework even under the Government of National Unity. Ntshavheni has been briefing the media in Cape Town on the Government of National Unity following the swearing-in ceremony of the 76 members of the National Executive in the seventh administration. Ntshavheni has outlined government's priorities and a program of action as articulated in the statement of intent....

Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi has rejected claims by the Democratic Alliance that the ANC blatantly refused to consider giving them more cabinet seats. Lesufi has announced his 10-member cabinet to lead the provincial government for next five year term. He says the DA initially accepted a maximum of three out of 10 cabinet seats, but later turned around to say they want 5. The DA said it will not form part of the provincial executive, saying the offer of three MEC positions made by the ANC was unfair and unreasonable. The DA says it will proudly fill the opposition benches in the Gauteng legislature. For more on this, Sakina Kamwendo spoke to the Democratic Alliance (DA) Federal Council Chairperson, Helen Zille and Political Analyst, Dr Levy Ndou.
