The process of determining whether Pietermaritzburg - the second largest city in KZN- is yet to be finalized.  This is according to the Municipal Demarcation Board following an application for Pietermaritzburg - which falls under the Msunduzi Municipality and Richmond Municipality to be amalgamated.  To date, the Demarcation board had received thousands of applications for the re-determination of municipal wards. Currently, 13 cases have been deferred and are subject to further research and public engagement.

Demarcation board has received thousands of applications for the re-determination of municipal wards

The eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality has temporarily closed four bathing beaches following the detection of pollution. The City says in a statement that it has established a dedicated team comprising senior municipal management to investigate the source of the pollution. The affected beaches are Blue Lagoon, eThekwini, Country Club and Battery. The City has reassured holidaymakers that 19 other bathing beaches will remain open. The death toll of initiates in the Eastern Cape has risen to seventeen during this summer initiation season. The OR Tambo District is accounting for the most deaths with six initiates, followed by the Amathole District with four deaths. While Chris Hani District and Buffalo City Metro account for three deaths respectively and one initiate confirmed dead in Alfred Nzo District. The Deputy Minister of Traditional Affairs, Zolile Burns-Ncamashe, is on a three-day urgent oversight visit in the province to assess the situation and engage with traditional leaders. Sakina Kamwendo caught up with our reporter Nkuleleko Nyembezi while engaging some of the relevant stakeholders, traditional leaders, parents and government
