Chairperson of Democratic Alliance Federal Council, Helen Zille says load shedding has caused economic collapse and massive unemployment in South Africa. Zille's remarks come in light of this the DA taking the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) to court following the regulator's authorisation of a 31,4% electricity tariff increase for Eskom. The matter is being heard at the North Gauteng High Court. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to SABC reporter, Naledi Ngcobo.

Gauteng Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Major General Fred Kekana, presenting the crime statistics for Gauteng for the first quarter of the 2026 financial year. Kekana says overall contact crime in Gauteng decreased by three percent during the first quarter. However, attempted murder, assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, and common assault increased. Kekana revealed Gender-based violence and femicide cases declined by 9.1 percent, while property-related crime fell by 2.7 percent.
