The Correctional Services Department has confirmed the death of Danish national, Peter Frederiksen at the Mangaung Correctional Centre in the Free State. Fredericks was serving two life terms at the facility after being found guilty of rape and conspiracy to commit murder. He was first arrested in September 2015 after 21 female genitalia were found in his home freezer. Spokesperson for the correctional services department, Singabakho Nxumalo explains. A 79-year-old suspect arrested in connection with the controversial Steinhoff matter is expected to appear before the Pretoria Specialised Crimes Court. According to the Hawks, the arrest emanates from an ongoing investigation into Steinhoff. His arrest follows the arrest of Stephanus Johannes Grobler who has since been released on bail and is due back in court next week Friday. Bongiwe Zwane spoke to Hawks spokesperson Colonel, Katlego Mogale.

The Khathorus Shop Owners Association and Gauteng Department of Economic Development intermediary, Family Tree Holdings, have released a joint statement rubbishing allegations leveled against the two entities by spaza shop owners in Kahlehong, east of Johannesburg.
