The African Rail Industry Association has welcomed the decision by Transport Minister, Barbara Creecy to approve 11 private train operators to partner with Transnet on South Africa's rail network. Creecy made the announcement following the publication of the Network Statement in December 2024. Police in KZN are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder following an incident at a fuel station near a mall in Westville, where one person was found dead inside a vehicle with gunshot wounds and another was found dead after he reportedly got out of the vehicle and fell to death as he allegedly attempted to jump over a wall. Police's preliminary investigations revealed that the BMW vehicle was fitted with cloned number plates. The driver of the BMW vehicle surrendered and was arrested. Lieutenant-General Francinah Ntombenhle Vuma has told the Ad Hoc Committe investigating criminal infiltration, corruption and political interfernce in the justice system that Publlic Works kept on demanding millions for an inhabitable building. The Telkom Towers were purchased in 2016 for nearly R700-million to serve as the headquarters for the South African Police Service in Pretoria. Speaking to evidence leader Lerato Vilakazi, Vuma says only R10 million was spent on the work done on the building
