The Nkabinde Inquiry into the fitness to hold office of suspended South Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions advocate Andrew Chauke resumed this morning. National Director of Public Prosecutions Advocate Shamila Batohi is continuing her testimony. The Inquiry chaired by retired Justice Bess Nkabinde was set up following allegations that suspended South Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions advocate Andrew Chauke obstructed key criminal prosecutions and shielded high profile individuals from facing justice.

The Hawks' National Serious Corruption Investigation Unit has arrested three suspects from the Health Department this morning. The suspects have been arrested on charges of fraud and theft. Hawks arrest health officials over allegations of R4.5m COVID fraud. 

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has adjourned for today and will resume on Wednesday morning. North West Businessman Brown Mogotsi, was today expected back on the stand,but failed to appear, citing illness. Evidence leader Advocate Matthew Chaskalson told the commission a medical certificate is expected by end of day. Chairperson Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga declared Mogotsi in contempt for now and indicated the commission may initiate legal proceedings but any consequences will be addressed on Wednesday once the certificate is reviewed. This comes as the inquiry races toward its March 17 deadline to wrap up its probe into criminality and corruption in the justice system.
