Anthony Salame has spent two decades making people laugh, but his path to becoming one of Australia’s most distinctive comedians was anything but conventional.

In this episode of Uncommon Ground, Professor Talal Yassine sits down with the comedian, actor and radio host to explore his upbringing in a Lebanese-Australian family, the influence of growing up in Sydney’s multicultural south-west and the unlikely path that took him from delivering pizzas and working in retail to performing stand-up comedy.

Anthony shares the story of his disastrous first gig, the family expectations he had to navigate and how his approach to comedy has evolved over the years. Together, he and Talal explore the power of humour to bring people together, the boundaries of what comedians can say and the personal experiences that shape the stories we tell.
